Agency shops don't require you to join the union after being hired, but require that you pay union dues.

Not stopping anyone else.
Have at it if it makes you fell better but complaining isn't going to do jack shit.

I guess I just don't understand it...your best opportunity to get a kick-ass job is to represent yourself and stand on your own merits...and using your network the best you can. But some people don't want to do that I guess.
All of what you are saying is true but how many people are we talking about in your work place? Could you imagine that scenario in a company that employs hundreds and hundreds of people?

Think about for a minute.
How much do you think you would be making if it wasn't for the Unions?
Companies will pay more just to keep unions out. Not that they want

I can tell you. You would be making the same wages they do in Mexico and China. The companies wouldn't have any incentive to pay more.

You seem like a pretty nice guy with a good life, also have strong opinions. You have every right to speak your opinions but
why such hate for something you aren’t involved in.

I'm not involved in?

Let's think about that.

40 years of property taxes in NJ and listening to the NJEA talk about "educating our children"
40 years of property taxes in NJ and listening to the NJ PBA and other unions extorting our towns out of BILLIONS in overpaid bullies.
30 years of having to deal with over-paid lazy UNION UPS drivers that damage every dang thing they touch.

You want to keep going??

Unions destroy everything they touch for our society. They are nothing short of extortion. It is beyond me why companies can't just say, "Nope - Bye."

That's why.

(I could do more... but I'm still at work to support all the union workers that are home nice and comfy.)

My company has somewhere around 100,000 people, but point taken and agreed. I have no idea if any locations are unionized.

Actually, they can, but they have to do it through the employees. It's called a "decertification process" and I've been through a number of them.

The problem with a lot of companies is actually trying to prove to employees that they'd be better off doing so. Too many companies don't have a good track record of that. They abdicate their management, supervision, and training to a third party (the union) instead of taking on that responsibility themselves. It costs money and effort to do it though, and a pretty determined senior management to make sure the leadership in the company is in sync.

I agree, his answer was what I figured it would be. I still think he’s probably a nice guy who has a good life.
Not always New Jersey, complains about Florida also.

Complaining? What would you call what you're doing?
I don't see anyone complaing about you. Just you're constant complaining about everything and everyone

I wasn’t crying or complaining, very clear about your right to have opinions. There you go again
with the hate, why get so angry. Protect from what? Unions protect people from angry guys on THT?
Relax and smell the roses, life is short. Bless your heart

Still trying to wrap my head around getting paid premium wages for putting lugnuts on a car and being so bad at they had to design some expensive machine to do all the thinking.

Ask the people who negotiate the contracts for the big three companies. What premium wage do you think they get. Surly you will get it wrong

They would be something else for you to complain about. You would say they are fake because they are most likely higher than yours

Always so predictable with the hate and pretend hard guy act. One trick pony insults anyone that disagrees with him, going low is a sign of a weak man. Instead of just going back and fourth, he gets angry and insults someone with a differing opinion. Sad weak little man. Bless your heart

Sounds like you are trying to say that without unions in this country we would all be living in cement shacks without plumbing and making $3 bucks a day. That is silly.
