Things will probably only change after one of the big cellular providers gets sued and loses big.

Glad your friend and children are okay, as you know it could have been much worse. I do not have an answer for you, other than personal responsibility is only something we older citizens understand it seems. Once again glad all will recover and hope the texting driver does some serious time.

The law protects them. You can't bash a texter at the next light with a 1 iron. Why a 1 iron? Nobody uses it so best to find a use for it.

If one or more morons on a cellphone don't come into my lane every time I drive I would be very surprised. Not sure there's an easy fix but law enforcement should be trying. Maybe have all the police writing speeding tickets for revenue switch over to writing cellphone violations instead,

No state bans all cell phone use for all drivers. However, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia (plus Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands) prohibit all drivers from using hand-held cell phones while driving. Thirty-six states and Washington, D.C. ban all cell phone use by newer drivers.

25% of all Auto Accidents are attributed to distracted drivers. As can be imagined, a driver that had an accident while texting is not likely to own up to the fact. Of the distracted drivers, most are talking on their cell phones. Reality suggests the number of accidents caused by texting and cell phone use is higher than reported. Certainly it was not reported in the accident I have knowledge of. The driver was texting and never touched the brakes. Just past the intersection is a bend in the road and if not a rear end collision it would have been a head on.

Hands free law banning cell phone use is not in place for North Carolina. The law has come for a vote several times, 82% of the voters approve of the measure, but the North Carolina Ledgislature simply will not pass the law.

This is actually a very interesting topic/problem that will not get better and will get considerably worse when there are only digital natives driving. Cell phones will probably be shut down when you turn on your vehicle. Enjoy your freedom now and be safe

I was hit from behind sitting at red lights twice in 2017.
the second one, the guy had no insurance.
suing someone that does not even have the money to keep up payments for insurance is a waist of your time and your money
