9/11 never forget

18 years ago the world changed forever. Nearly 3000 innocent souls were murdered by an ideology that I believe we will fight for generations. The sight's, sounds and smell of the carnage is something that is etched in my brain forever.
As an officer in the FDNY, I was not on duty that day but instead was enjoying a round of golf with some other FDNY members on that beautiful September morning. When we were told of the events by a group behind us, we raced to our car's and made our way to the WTC site.
Upon my arrival, the sheer enormity of the destruction was overwhelming and it seemed impossible that we would find survivors. But miraculously a few were found prior to my arrival, unfortunately these would be the only survivors. We dug through debris using our hands and buckets to remove what we could, It would be awhile before heavy equipment was bought in.
In the weeks and months to come, every victim, or part thereof, that was found was treated with dignity and honor upon their removal from the site. We would bow our heads and say prayer. I lost 50 friends that day and the dept lost 343 brave and courageous men. Since that day 200 more have died from 9/11 related illnesses. RIP brothers.
I hope we never have to experience and event like this but we must
NEVER FORGET!

I'll NEVER forget or forgive what those b@st@rds did.

I was in Rapid City a few years before 9/11 at a bar called the Firehouse.

A group of FDNY guys were in there and having a great time.

When 9/11 happed I was focused on looking at video and pictures to see if I could recognize any one of these guys.

I still wonder on this day each year what happed to them. God bless their souls.

People from my generation will never forget where we were when 9/11 occurred, just as those from the prior generation will remember where they were when President Kennedy was assassinated. The current generation has lost the vigilance, commitment, and national unity that arose after 9/11. With the loss of these, I fear that they are adrift.

May God bless those who were taken from us that day, especially the hundreds of first responders who put themselves in harm's way to help others, and grant peace to their families and the others affected by physical and emotional toll of that day.

To read those transcripts, let alone hear those calls and such....so sad.

Thanks for the post.

NEVER FORGET!

I
was a volunteer fire chief in NJ, my ex-wife was flight nurse for med evac unit. We both just got done night work. She came in and said that they hit the first tower. Our lives were forever changed. We both were called to be on standby to go-to NYC. My fire company was used to land choppers to a warehouse with medical supplies. They were flying it to NYC and DC .

I remember the anxiety for the next few weeks after. I remember also how the country came together and put aside our differences. It amazing how much has changed since then in our great nation. Sadly they were successful in their goals for destroying our lives forever.

R.I.P my brothers.

Bless the responders and all those affected. I was flying in a 182 that morning and didn't know until we were on approach to land and the tower guy told us.

I hope I don't wreck this thread, but after reading the OP I went surfing a bit on news sites to see what would show up on this historic day.

Seems like most sites have forgot, or at least don't have much info "above the fold"...

I won't forget.

spraynet 1 09-11-2019 05:39 AM

Nothing else for me to add to all the wonderful heartfelt responses other than my sincere appreciation for the many heroes who ran towards certain death, and those like the OP who left his family for weeks on end to be there at "Ground Zero" looking!

Brad1 09-11-2019 05:48 AM

I'll never forget.

joe.giuliano 09-11-2019 06:08 AM

I was flying into LGA that morning. Certainly will not forget.

A day of remembrance and transformation...loved one's lost and the beginning of a new war. For all those lost that day and the incredible first responders who passed after from the toxic dust, God Bless You All and truly Rest in Peace.
