That thing filling up and sinking is probably the best possible outcome for other boats in the area. My money would be on those trees uprooting and the boat going for a ride damaging other properly moored boats if the shit gets really wild.

@AlreadyThere, was that you in the blue Conch 30? We walked over to check your boat out when it was tied up to the ramp docks. Sweet ride!

This is how you beach a boat.

This from a Facebook review of Cracker Boy Boat Works, apparently from the Owner of "Mad Money":

I looked up Majestic Heavy Equipment. Looks like sales/leasing company in Ohio for constriction equipment. Sadly, his equipment in the photos look about as well maintained as his boat.

How about spending some mad money on an over sized anchor with a few hundred feet of heavy chain then several hevy lines coming from that to the boat on the leeward side of the storm and he would be floating right now. His insurance will probably pay him twice what its worth.

So Sad. there are 100 guys here on THT that would have taken that Hattaras for a project boat. It really doesn't (didn't) look that far gone that she would be much challenge for some of the artisans that post their projects here. What a waste.

Will his insurance company have any grounds to deny a claim? "reckless" " intentional" etc?

Heres the guy's facebook page if anyone else wants to check it out....I think he's a little off. He state that he encountered 20-50' waves the night before and the boat nearly capsized, so he was beaching it so it doesn't become a hazard in the coming storm.

Yeah, thanks. We ran over to Conch to borrow a trailer. Owner put it in the warehouse for us - great guy.

Total BS. As you can see from the pictures of near glassy waters surrounding it today and yesterday, all he had to do is throw his anchor. We moored one of our boats similarly in a protected area near Rio 2 miles from here. He could have just driven down the Indian river south from where he said he came. The winds just weren't and aren't bad here. We almost put our pathfinder in today to retrieve another boat but opted, "nah, we'll just do it tomorrow."

The guy either had absolutely no clue about boating or this is an insurance deal. I'm betting the latter.

Yeah, he was saying the same to us too. He said his top canopy touched the water but thankfully they didn't roll. Suuuuure it did.

I think this guy is in for a surprise if and when he tries to file an insurance claim.
