Default In N Out vs Whataburger

Being a life long Texan, I recently got back from a few weeks on the west coast and ate at In N Out a few times.

For those of you that have had both, which did you prefer? For me, it was seriously too close to call. Except those In N Out fries aren't up to par

I don't know if you're missing much, but it's a pretty on going debate around here. Figured I'd ask on THT!

There are In N Out burgers in Dallas, and down I 35 to San Antonio now. I hate to say it, but I like In N Out better than Whataburger. In N Out fries are fresh cut, Whataburger fries are frozen.

In n Out absolutely for burgers. Double-Double animal style can’t be beat, the seasoning is perfection. The key to fries is to ask to have them well done/crispy. That’s what real fries, not frozen are supposed to taste like.

Credit where it's due, both are far better than any fast food chain burger we get here. Five guys is a good comparison though.

I used to work in Houston alot and have had my share of Whataburger, and have been to Socal a number of times and always stop at In N Out.

I give the slight nod to In N Out, but their fries SUCK. They are awful.

it is a tasty burger. Not a huge fan of their fries, which are crinkle cut.

I like In N Out and Five Guys. Burger Fi is below. I have never had Whataburger.

I liked Fat Burger better than all of the above though they no longer exist in Florida.

HOMETOWN REPRESENT!!

Whataburger all day er day. There is a huge two-story Whataburger with a freaking elevator and everything on the bay front in Corpus. The oldest one (#3) still in operation is over in Kingsville.

Frozen or fresh cut, Whataburger fries are way better. I love them with honey. I've been to that one in Corpus.

The burgers are so close though. I think in n out is more fresh, but Whataburger taste better.

Never been to five guys, but I had smash burger in San Diego and it was good.

There was much talk about in n out burger a couple years ago in Houston as they were looking to buy property here. I saw one while driving through Dallas and decided to see what the hype was about.
My burger was dry on an entirely unremarkable bun. The fixins were OK. The fries were on par with Jack in the Box. Best part of the meal was the coke. I didn't even finish the food. I have had better burgers in stadiums.
Whataburger kicks ass!

Five Guys and Shake Shack are in a different price class from InO and 5Gs. Went to my first SS this summer and liked it. Reminded me a little of a Steak and Shake burger. Shake was a lot like an InO shake. However a proper strawberry shake has to be made from strawberry ice cream, strawberries and strawberry syrup, at the very least two of those three have to be in there, so I'm out on SS shakes as well as InO.

I don't like mustard on my burgers, and while Whataburgers are good (certainly the best fast food burger when we lived in TX for 12 years), I got tired of asking them to leave the effin' mustard off. In-n-Out just seems to have fresher ingredients all around.

Here in eastern NC the best fast food burger is El's Drive-In in Morehead City (also have to leave the mustard off) and best chain is Cook-Out.

Actually In-N-Out might qualify as a mom and pop shop. It was started by a couple, who lost both their sons. They had one grandchild, Lynsi Synder, 37 and she now owns the entire business. I read a article about her awhile back, they referred to her as one of America’s Hidden Billionaires.

Never had in n out or Whataburger. Have had five guys and burger fi. I like five guys better than burger fi. Spendy though. Basically $15 for bacon double cheeseburger and fries.
