I'd rather have a Flanigan's hamburger or even a Jack's anyday over the in and out. Never heard of Whataburger. I guess us South Floridians are missing out. (not)
My first time was also in Vegas, and I gotta say it wasn't very good. But, in Cali it was a completely different story. A friend that was with me in Cali also said the same about the location in Austin

Mars, are you sure it was Whataburger? That sounds an awful lot like what happened to my fave fast food burger place, Fatburger. I loved loved loved fatburger, even though they were about 40% more expensive than they should have been. Then one day, boom, they were gone. I read an article about their disappearance. I wanna say the owner of the Florida franchises got into tax or money washing trouble, but that is most probably incorrect.

Whataburger, period.

Well, unless there's a Chick-fil-A close by!

We used to have a couple "What-A-Burger" places in the Richmond area LONG ago, but I think they were locally owned? ;? VERY good!

We have a 5 Guys about a mile or so from the house. Wife really likes them, but when we went a couple weeks ago, we got a SMALL burger, a SMALL cheeseburger, ONE order of fries and 2 SMALL drinks - it was a little over $23!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good but NOT cheap!

Regards,

As a few people have said, fries at In-n-out need to be ordered "light well" or "well done".

Yes, there were a few here in Central Fl. There are still three of them in the Jacksonville area.

My vote is for In- N-Out.......no mice killed during food preparation.
You sure about that?

My wife and I went to California last year. As we were driving along, we saw an In-N-Out. Since it was around lunch time, and my wife had heard about it from some radio show she listens to, we decided to stop there. I gotta say, I wasn't impressed. Sure, it was clean, and the staff friendly, but the food was nothing special. Maybe a step up from typical fast food but not something that I'd go for normally. I'd rather pay a couple of bucks more and get a burger at a sports bar.

Of the two, I would choose In and Out, though they have by far the worst fries in the fast food world, in my opinion.

They're "OK"...IMO.
About the same as InN, and Whata, and 5 Guys. All just "OK" ...for a slightly better than typical McD's/BurgerKing/Wendys fast food joint.

But I'm too much of a "burger snob" to say any are "GREAT"...compared to either home made, or really good one of a kind burger joints.

We have Culvers along with In & Out and Whataburger here in DFW. Our family is split on which is the best. I personally vote Whataburger with Culvers a close second. Don't care for In and Out.

5 Guys is better than all three but you do pay twice as much so I don't really put it on the same playing field. Mooyah is just as good and on the same level as 5 Guys.

Being from the West Coast I’m very familiar with In-N-Out. Having lived in Houston for about a year and a half and hearing about Whataburger, I tried it a few times.

When I told friends that I was going to go to Whataburger they all said... oh no.

No comparison...I wouldn’t wish a visit to Whataburger on my worst enemy, and I can’t recommend In-N-Out highly enough. I will say that the In-N-Out in Dallas, and other Texas cities, isn’t as good as the ones out west.

This thread has reminded me that there is no consistancy in fast food places.

The Whataburger I had in San Antonio (thier HQ city) and in El Paso was really good for fast food. It sounds like there are plenty that are sub-par. In N Out never impressed me, even the ones in CA so my opinion is based upon those.

Bojangles used to have the best fast food chicken but I haven't had a decent meal at one of those in 15 years and will no longer proclaim them as even being good.

As someone said, let's not carried away. None of them are near as good as an average $12 burger at a sports bar much less a real steakhouse.

Spent the day driving through Missouri. Had to stop at a Culver’s for no other reason than this thread. It reminds me more of a Freddie’s, but it was definitely a solid burger/fries. I think I’m still in the Whataburger camp, but Culver’s is up there IMO.
