However a proper strawberry shake has to be made from strawberry ice cream, strawberries and strawberry syrup, at the very least two of those three have to be in there, so I'm out on SS shakes as well as InO.

I don't like mustard on my burgers, and while Whataburgers are good (certainly the best fast food burger when we lived in TX for 12 years), I got tired of asking them to leave the effin' mustard off. In-n-Out just seems to have fresher ingredients all around.

Here in eastern NC the best fast food burger is El's Drive-In in Morehead City (also have to leave the mustard off) and best chain is Cook-Out.
El's is good... And cook out is excellent. I like cheddar style.

By that logic every fast food chain would qualify as mom n pop.

I'm way pickier.. I like it dry with only lettuce and onion. They always get it right for me at Whataburger.. I guess it's just a matter of if you go to one with half way smart people or not

Mom and Pop restaurants are generally owned by one or two people. Most fast food is corporate owned, and they sell franchises to other corporations. Every N Out is owned by Lynsi, no stockholders, no franchisers.

There's a really great book about the founding of IandO. If you like business bios and entrepreneurial stories this is a good one:

If Big Kahuna burger not available try a Derwood Kirby burger with a $5 shake.

$5 for a milk shake, do they put bourbon in it or something?

Point taken. I just meant most all fast food franchises started as a single mom n pop store that eventually expanded exponentially.

I love In N Out burger! But it has lived up to its name a few times.

Never been to in and out. Whataburger is solid plus their breakfast fare is excellent with the taquitos and sausage BOBs. Cookout makes a good burger for the money.

Never been to a whataburger but In-and-Out is usually my first stop anytime I go to California.

Five Guys is also good and I like Elevation Burger too.

Hell, I'll eat just about any burger. By far my favorite food.

Eliminate the drama, available coast to coast, Wendy’s Triple. Yea a few bars and restaurants might have as good of a burger but for fast food outstanding and for the price, unbeatable......

This post proves that people will vote on a subject without any basis of knowledge for it. No way in hell In N Out is better than Whataburger and it is not even close. Well, maybe it will be soon now that Whataburger was bought by some people in Chicago.

In N Out is nothing more than an average fast food burger that benefited greatly from movie and pop culture hype due to the "secret menu".

Places like Burger Fi have a legitimate claim but McDonalds, Wendy's, BK, and In N Out.... get outta here!

Not to derail but Culver's, a small midwest chain, has a fantastic "butter burger" !!

I’ve tried in and out 6 or 8 times when on the west coast to try and figure out what the hype is about. I don’t get it, I’d rather have Wendy’s.

Whataburger is good but shake shack and five guys are a different level.

someone mentioned Culver’s, that’s a good fast food burger when traveling the Midwest.
