We have no plans at all and I'm grateful. Maybe we will do some boating with the neighbors. Maybe we will do a cookout or two. Maybe we will go to the pool. Or maybe we will do nothing. For all I know we may pack up the car and head down to OBX for a night or two. All options are on the table with nothing to stop us.

Driving from the DC area to Holland, MI, where we've rented a big house with fifteen of my wife's family members.

Our daughter turns one on Thursday, so we'll host a first birthday party for her on Saturday, which will basically be a traditional LDW cookout branded as a kid's first birthday party.

Researched the fishing around that area and it doesn't look like it'll happen this trip. No one else will want to join and I can't really take myself away for an entire day (or half really) if we're all just together for a couple of days. They're all in Chicagoland and we only really get to see them around holidays anyways.

Well, months ago we made plans to leave town for the weekend, LD party at a friend's house in NJ. So of course that means a threat of a tropical storm or hurricane while we are gone, in both Clearwater and Cudjoe Key. I really dislike Labor Day and hurricanes.

Some of our fields have access from 3 or 4 directions and part of it is along Hwy 70 four lane, they just stop jump out and start walking into the fields. You wind up losing your chance to hunt or enjoy yourselves if you spend all day trying to police it, lots of Hispanics especially. They game warden usually manages to ticket a few, the rest take off and circle back around soon as he leaves. We try to keep our group for the most part together to have one area.

Spending the day where the Surf meets the Turf.

Del Mar Race Course, watching the Del-Mar Derby and Juvenile Turf colt division.

Got invited to a friend's house on Lake Buchanan with another couple. There will be boating, fishing, hanging out at the island, lounging in the hot tub, LOTS of drinking. Good times.

Our daughter will be going to Maine this weekend with some of her friends so wifey and I are kidless!
We'll be on the boat (as we are every Fri/Sat/Sun..and some Tues/Thus too)....but we get to be kid free. Probably load up on food 'n drinks, and depending on the weather...head out to Fishers Island, or Long Island, or ...head north up the CT River, find some low key spot to hang for the day so I can get sunburn on my nutsack ' n buttcheeks.

You can EASILY fish around Holland at the spur of the moment. Bring a light rod, minimal tackle, and rent a boat or pick a stream.

Probably a little work on the pier, as it still needs resurfacing from Damn ol Florence. Plenty of beer & grilling as our oldest is bringing his 3 college roommates for the long weekend.
It's going to be hard to admit, but this weekend I'm pulling for DUKE! Don't tell the wife as she went to Crapel Hill.

Be Safe Y'all

Good times with family! Daughter and granddaughter visiting from east Tennessee. Boat ride to Shackelford or Sand Dollar Island, if the weather cooperates.

I was looking at the park with a pier, but given the time restrictions I mentioned, I'd be more inclined to wet a line more casually. Maybe I'll bring what you suggest just for fun and see if the opportunity presents itself.

The photos from the Lake Michigan charters look awesome, but this won't be the trip for that.

And I'm guessing that I can just pop into a local tackle shop and get set up with the right bait fairly easily...
