Default Have you noticed a lot of workers using phones on the clock?

I’m talking about mostly low wagers, baggers at the grocery store, workers at home depot, target, walmart, lowes, etc. Lately ai notice many playing on their phone, when you know they are on the clock. They act as if it is completely normal. Very odd to me to see this. Really makes me shake my head. You guys seeing this too?

Just recently fired a guy that I had assigned to "fire watch". He had his back to the action and was steady playing with his damn phone. Fired on the spot.

Imho, Access to the internet has led to more lost productivity than cigarettes.

Ever notice, you walk into an office and a worker on the clock quickly switches their screen from THT to a spreadsheet

People can't take a leak without getting off their phones, doesn't surprise me.

Ha, we have a guy that got canned one time. The top brass steps off one of our trains and this guy is standing face down into his phone, sees the guys shoes and says, "One minute sir." as he looks up the guy says, "See me in my office with your union rep Monday morning."

He was fired on the spot, our union rep at the time had a hard and fast rule, "If you weren't doing something wrong I'll defend you to hell and back, if you were screwing up I'll ask them to be lenient, nothing more."

Glad he got fired, he sucked.

lol

there used to be a button on one of our local pages that the outlaws hung out on that would eject you out of danger territory into a generic “looking busy” screen.

When I worked , had the shop assign me a "helper " to help him learn the a/c trade. We were on the roof doing filter and belt changes and he was on the phone what seamed like every 5 minutes. Told him to put it away and get to work. Still kept using it. Told him I was going to go get more filters. Got off the roof, took down the ladder and left to do another call. Office call 3 hours later and ask what happened ,and go back and get him. Took my time and got back to the shop and marched into office with him and explained the problem. Didn't have anything to say. Problem solved and he went with someone else while there. Kid was a problem everywhere he went in the system and never got it.

If y'all think this is bad in the US, come to the islands. The phone will be on video call all day long between someone they know and someone they want to know. Doesn't matter what job they are doing.

I'm still trying to figure out why a phone is more interesting than life in general.

Work 12 hr shifts....a few employees spend, not exaggerating, 3-4 hrs of the 12 staring at their phones, to the detriment of their patients....

people live very uninteresting lives because they’re scared to drink, smoke, drive fast, touch things without hand sanitizer, eat good food, bang easy women, or do anything that doesn’t scare them.

I was having a house built one time and this carpenter's helper stayed on the phone over 5 of 8 hours, he was not a happy camper at the end of the day when he asked me to pay him.

Get use to it. It is and will stay the norm. Employers are just gone have to decide is the worker worth it and Are they on it too much and if this person is not productive because of the new norm or not.

My BIL's kids are screen zombies. They don't interact, they stare at any screen in view.
