Would love to get some hunting in this year but not looking too likely. Went to my family property a few times last year and whacked a few population control boars but no eaters. Got two white tail and an axis on a state park lottery hunt that we are still eating on so I have meat to last awhile longer. I'm starting a new job in late september and my first son is due any day now so life is a bit too hectic to quietly sit in the woods for awhile...

I was close to going with lone wolf but chose the hawk because of larger platform, better seat and only 12 lbs.

That new lone wolf system is sweet but pricey. Believe the stand is listed at 7 lbs

Been slowly backing out of hunting. Dont have much desire to do it these days minus a few select opportunities, elk turkey, small game, etc. Almost 0 desire to sit in a stand for deer.

Totally would be if I had a place to go out and get in the woods.

This is the perfect time to sit quietly in the woods for a while.

Life is all about balance. Don't let yourself tip too far in either direction.

I'm now into 45-70. Have a Sharps with a 32" barrel and just found a Marlin with 26" octagon lever action. nothing over 100 yards around here, so hope to find a lower Alabama site for me and my son. Cool weather is a must, though: I can't take sitting in heat.

That's why I could never get into bow hunting in south Texas. Its still 90+ in October here which SUCKS in any kind of concealment. Our scrub brush isn't tall enough for conventional climbers or ladder blinds so we are pretty well confined to box or pit blinds. Too many scorpions, cockroaches and other critters in pit blinds so boxes and pop-ups are our usual options. Both of them are hot as balls and not very enjoyable to hunt out of before december.

Just got back from a pig roast with all my hunting buddies. Made some plans, great time! Getting ready now. We’ll set up a few 3D shoots to get tuned up a little. Can’t wait.

Down south it still feels like boating season. Once the cold air stays I get the itch to move to the woods.

I'd love to get into deer hunting, but I'm deathly afraid of ticks. I've never so much as even seen a tick. How do you guys avoid ticks?

All of my hunting clothes are treated with Permethrin before the start of the season. Haven’t seen a tick in years. As a bonus, it keeps mosquitoes away too.

If you want pretreated hunting clothes, look up Gamehide Elimi-tick...

Thought I’d piggy back on this threa about my Browning X Bolt with “Dura Touch stock. Browning will replace these stocks due to the composite stock breaking down and becoming unusable due to sticky residue. Pass the word.

i have that issue issue with my X Bolt but do not see anything about it on the Browning website. Is there a particular person to speak with if you call them? I presume they make you send the gun back to them for stock replacement? Thanks!

just know that if your entire gun is camo, they may not be able to match the pattern on the receiver/barrel.

I got rid rod of a BPS preemptively because of this issue. And because I don’t like camp guns. Or composite guns all that much either. Just personal preference.

Took mine to dealer , bought several years ago and the dealer sent it back. But I believe you can call Browning customer service and they’ll authorize return. I did call them myself and were in process of replacement. It’s taken couple of months.

Dura touch was no camp gun stock it a great alternative to wood stocks on rifle having to be bedded to keep from warping.

absolutely. I’m just picky and dislike the cosmetics of anything other than nice wood.
