Default I might need sensitivity training.

Got this little gem in a news feed. A woman was upset because security guard uniforms had a six pointed star on them and she felt that it was reminiscent of holocaust imagery. It reminded me of a sheriff's badge, and, considering that it was on security guard uniforms, my thought seems logical. I have a couple of Jewish acquaintances that wear a Star of David as a necklace. I wonder if they consider these uniforms holocausty?

I consider myself pretty respectful of other people's cultures and religions but this really seems to be a bit overly sensitive on the woman's part. Or am I just not sensitive enough?

You're not wrong. People these days are just oversensitive as to what goes on.

No, she just needs common sense training.

This sets a bad precedent when ONE person complains because they're looking to be offended and a company changes it's entire policy, AND essentially issues an apology.

"Diversity and inclusion is at the core of our values"

BS. Making money is. Just once I'd like to hear a company come out and say it.

"We're gonna do things the right way, but the reason we exist is to make money, not provide safe spaces or be inclusive of everyone".

If it is on a sleeve, I think she has a point. Anywhere else and that is a sheriff's badge.

Too many hypersensitive ninnies around these days. Though, what Torfed said, 6 pointed star badges are usually sheriff's badges.

What is this “common sense” that you speak of?

Guess they will have to get rid of the Israeli flag and rip out a lot of stained glass and statuary at synagogues.

The guards wear them in the same place as these kids and they look similar. Not having any family concerns about this in the 40's myself, I can't relate but if I were the designer of those uniforms, I would re-evaluate his/her choice. Edit: Ooops I just read that they were removed.

Question. As many of you say it is oversensitivity. If there is only one star on the uniform, it is six pointed, and it is on a bicep sleeve of the uniform, is that still ok to you? I'm genuinely curious.

Perhaps the thought is that the six pointed star isn't just Jewish. At least that's MY thought but WTF do I know?

The Star of David has been around for centuries. Can't say the same for your local sheriff ;-) But I would be a bit more concerned that the security guards may be bordering on impersonating a real law officer.

If it is the logo in question, I don't think there's any problem with it. It's obviously not intended to represent what they are insinuating.
