Mail Jumpers
Came across this video on my Youtube feed. I can't believe this is a thing. Seems so dangerous, I would never let my child attempt this. What are your thoughts?

No worse than football, soccer, hurdles on the track team, etc. Let them be teenagers and do this stuff while they can. Better than sitting inside and playing video games, and keep them in better shape than working at McDonald's.

Seems like a good way to get chopped up by the prop.
Why not move the mailbox to the end of the dock?
Why can't the boat stop, or at the very least, go slower?
I'd put the mail in a doggy bag, add a piece of rock, then toss it onto the dock.
I would not allow this if I own that dock; lawsuit incoming in 3, 2, 1...

Guessing they've been doing it for 75 years or more without serious incidents. Boat almost certainly an inboard with a well-hidden prop so risk is really limited to the jumps and falls themselves. I'd take this over bicycle courier any day of the week for serious risks.

You'd think they'd just have a hook at the end of the dock to hook a small mail bag on. That would save paying the other 7 kids. But its probably a long lived tradition.

'dangerous' is a relative term. What I see in that video is fun.
There are a lot of people that do crazy things and have a lot of fun.
Sometimes, they require a dentist assistance...

Trains used to do that without involving people for transfer. There were two mail bags, one on the depot (outgoing) and one on the train (incoming). There were hooks to grab each one at different levels or locations as the train passed at speed.

I get the mail jumping , looks like fun , just would be tough to give the OK to your own daughter then wonder everyday ... AHHH phone rang
