Default Juneteenth

I'm 48yo, and by no means ignorant, but when my iPhone calendar alerted me that today is "Juneteenth" I had to look it up. Surely I'm not the only one, right? I guess it makes me racist in the eyes of all the SJWs out there.

My Android had no such notification.

I've never heard of it until last week when there was a banner for it at work.

I guess that makes 2 of us. LOL

My damn iPhone shows too many fake holidays that are not part of the US calendar. Wish there was some way to remove them from the calendar.

I don't see why anyone would be irritated about celebrating the abolishment of slavery. Do I? No, it doesn't really, nor has it ever affected me directly. It also doesn't affect me if others want to celebrate it. Racism won't ever be abolished, unfortunately.

June 19th 1865 was when Federal troops imposed the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas, the last of the Confederate states to be occupied. Slavery was still legal in the states that did not secede. Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, and Missouri. The proper date to celebrate the end of slavery would be Dec 6 1865, the date the 13th amendment was ratified.

My birthday is June tenth but apparently they are "celebrating" it on the 19th. I'm confused.

June 19, 1865 was the day that news of slave emancipation reached Texas,
I'm no history buff, but the google must have been down that year, and newspaper headlines were not available on their smartphones.

So yeah - late news.
Happy Juneteenth, everyone!

It's worth celebrating.
The date may be debatable, but who cares.

'Democratic junk' would be Congressional Dems opposing civil rights legislation every step of the way; the founding of KKK; generations of racism via low expectations and pandering with "free" stuff to make guilty white libs feel good about themselves; passing and enforcement of Jim Crow laws; statements like: "segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever" and ""I was out-n****ed by John Patterson. And I'll tell you here and now, I will never be out-n****ed again." condoning and promulgation of rampant antisemitism.

These are just starters of Democratic junk.

June 19th is my wedding anniversary. Is there some other reason I should care about that date?

Fo realz

Is nearly amazing that the state of education in this country is such that an adult would not know the significance of June 19th or "Juneteenth"
