Default To Rope A Grizzly Bear

I thought about this show the other day and watched a few on you-tube, Stan was either a bad ass or crazy. Skip to about the 17:00 minute mark for the action, and it gets hairy at the end.

Imagine the outrage if this was filmed today

Man I remember that show..Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom.

..but the bear is still a cub...quite young, small, not even a "teenager" yet. (hence while cowering to the dogs).
He couldn't have done that to a full adult grizzly.

Conpletely staged

Bear looked to be playing with the dogs in the water.

I don't think it was tame, they caught a different animal every week

Having just returned from 10 days of casual day hiking Grand Tetons and Yellowstone NPs, two things come to mind, that's a small bear and they wouldn't be fucking around with a brute. Bear aware signs everywhere in both parks and many trailheads were augmented with additional signs highlighting increased bear activity and the need for extreme caution.
The bear population is both parks is extremely healthy along with the wolves.

I cried "Bull Shit" in 3rd grade watching this great show, and I cry "Bull Shit" now. Baby tame bear.

In other news, here's my TM Sgt. in his best Marlin Perkins voice:

"Here's Jim wrestling with a wild anaconda - 'WATCH OUT, JIM ! ! - those jaws can take a man's face off !', while I watch from the safety of the road grader".

Good times, those

Roping a grizzly is like a dog chasing a bus what the hell is he going to do if he catches it

Staged or not that’s some impressive rope work. I’ve never ridden a horse but at that speed I imagine I’d be holding on for dear life.

I can't imagine any horse running after a grizzly. Think they have more horse sense than that.
