Default Philly guys...

Best place to get a cheesesteak? Wife and son are headed up to visit Temple University this weekend for a football prospect camp. I know about Pat’s and Geno’s, but some people are telling me that they are places that are much better.

Any my input is appreciated.

Unless you've got a think for them I think they are over rated, I've done road trips to Philly in my younger days, been back several times with family and always walk away saying, "Yeah it's an ice sammich, but what's the big deal.?"

Enjoy, I hope more so then I.

Jim's is pretty good. I really love Steve's - tiny little place shoe-horned into the corner of a building. My favorite. Wife went to school in Phila for 4 years. She knows her stuff.

As already mentioned, Dalessandro's in Roxboro. Man do I miss it. We lived in Manayunk on Main St for two years and talk about easing a hangover. Chubby's is across the street from them and is OK but Dalessanfro's is better. Pat and Geno's attracts tourists, been there and done that. If you have time, visit the Italian Market and Reading Terminal Market, bring a cooler.

“Chinks” well... “joes” or something now that the politically correct crowd forced a name change.

Jim's on South Street is the best
. Pat's and Gino's are tourist traps and not worth the wait. If you have the time for two sandwich stops also hit the Reading Terminal Market and go to Dinic's for the best roast pork sandwich. Get it with provolone. Some people like the broccoli rabe on it, but I prefer long hots. (Only get them if you really like hot peppers)

For cheesesteaks I like Oregon Steaks @ 10th and Oregon and next Dallessandro's BUT THE BEST sandwich is roasted pork, sharp provolone, and hots at Dinic's @ Reading Terminal. JMO

I’ve been back in philly for 12 years and haven’t had a cheesesteak. How long are they staying? I live close to temple. There are a ton of great restaurants nearby. Why get a crappy cheesesteak.

If they want to grab a quick sandwich not to far from Temple try Poe’s sandwich joint 1429 Marlborough st. Walk up window but good stuff.

Tony Lukes - steak Italian or the pork Italian
Reading Terminal
Johns Roast Pork

all of the above are great make sure to wash it down with a Pops Water ice on Oregon Ave. High school teammmate of mine played at Temple. Great school the neighborhood has improved since then

Thanks gentlemen! I’ll pass all of these on to the admiral!

They’re only in Philly for one night. The camp is Friday night at Temple. Coming home on Saturday. I couldn’t get off of work or I’d be taking him. If the coaches like him, there might be 4-5 years of eating opportunities in the future!

D'Alessandro's is one of the better ones.
of the big 3- Pat’s, Geno’s and Jim’s- I prefer Jim’s on South
Steve’s gets good reviews but haven’t been there.

Tony Luke’s does everything well

For me the best sandwich in a great sandwich city is D’nics Roast pork with broccoli rabe and long hots and sharp provi from Reading Terminal. That’s an easy ride from Temple also.

Temple is a good school but it’s in a rough neighborhood.

Hoping to head to down to the St. Augustine area this summer for a long weekend, looking at Nocatee in St Johns co. as another retirement option.
