I went into the customer service desk at the local store here and asked how to sign up for the military discount. They showed me a website and I went home and started registering on the site. The site redirected me to another site that verifies your military service. I ended up having to send in a copy of my DD214 but now I am registered with Home Depot with a Pro account and get the 10% military discount. You just need to plug in your phone number at the register and it will give you the discount. I am not retired, etc., just a vet with 3 years of active service back in the late 70's. If you have more current service, you probably won't need to go through the hoops and supply a copy of you DD214.

Same for me. I get my vet discount at any local hd any day of the year. I only served six years and only had to show the new veterans I'd card to get signed up on the pro acct. Saved me 10% on a $4000.00 john deere.

Each HD is different. My local one has never had a military discount for veterans. Lowes discount is universal with every store as far as I know. They are 2 miles apart here so I never go the HD anymore since they have pretty much the same products for the same price.

My father has been using his Retired (20 years army reserve) ID at Home Depot for years. Never been turned down except at the two cash registers at the contractors exit.

I signed up many months ago with Lowes. They offer you a small sticker to be used to confirm you are an approved veteran. I stuck mine on the top of the credit card I normally use. You can scan it at any register, including the self-service ones.

Lots of people serve in this country. Police, Firemen, Nurses, doctors, trash-men, flight attendants, truck drivers, loggers, fishermen, porta-john pumpers, teachers, road-paving-men working at night repaving highways, miners, farmers, roofers, construction workers.....none of them get a discount or a special parking spot.

Not true. Lowe's and numerous businesses provide or offer a discount because THEY chose to. This is for many if not most on your list. And the appreciation runs both ways

Let me guess, you or your parents are some of those who pissed on Vietnam Vets returning home . . .

Let us know which HD or Lowes you're going to go demonstrate in front of to demand JUSTICE for portajohn pumpers.

I served in VN and then got out. I registered at Lowes with my DD-214 and all I've ever had to do is give them my phone number. I assume since the name matches my AMEX they never ask for anything else.

Are you the guy that spit on me and called me a baby killer back in 1969 in San Francisco while I walked down the street with my uniform on?

Lowes is pretty generous with their military discount. I was helping my elderly parents with a project and asked the cashier for the military discount, stated I did not serve but I was buying things for my father who did serve but he just couldn't come with me. They took 10% off no questions asked and have done so a few times since.

The Navy made me fly back from VN in civilian clothes in 1973; because of those people.

who told you that? the cashier? did you ask a manager? how about trying to resolve on your own / get more information before blasting them on the internet?

I prefer not to let everyone in the area hear my phone number. I have to get the card out anyway to pay. And don'r want the c/c number on their database, which will eventually get hacked. The phone number doesn't work at the self service kiosks.
