Default Culture rot

Complete lack of respect for themselves, their parents, or anyone else. What is the answer? Try them as adults? Start holding parents equally accountable? Where does this stop becoming the new norm?

What are we talking about? You linked to the main page of the news there. Theres a 37 year old who killed his 5 children, there's a 54 year old that was killed with a gunshot wound to the chest, theres an article about D-Day. Theres a 5 year old that drowned with 30 people in the pool with her. A 22 year old West Point cadet that was killed during a training exercise. And a couple of teenagers that broke into a girls room. Im just not sure which one of these to be outraged by.

Went through high school and college in the 60s. Think that period in our history is far worse that what we are seeing today.

Short answer is our pussified society that has no consequences. From school systems, to the court room, to average household. Way too many are afraid to adequately punish those that need it.

I 100% agree with culture rot, idiocracy and de-evolution in general but overall I feel safer these days. I used to see fights everywhere from the mid 70's to mid 90's. So much so that it changed my character. Now, I can't remember the last time I saw 2 random guys going at it like life depended on it. Now the degree of violence is worse, car jacking, armed robbery, brutal beatdowns of the elderly, but still seems less violent in my daily travels than in the past. News travels fast these days and half the time it is someone setting themselves up to win a lawsuit.

ETA: Even so, I much preferred the old days to the garbage society we have today.

Culture rot? As if alleged crimes like the one in the link have not been going on forever.

Unfortunately, boys have been breaking into girls bedrooms and doing all sorts of horrible things since the dawn of time. There may very well be "culture rot" (how do you measure that?) but the crime rate is lower today than it's been in any of our lifetimes - and has been dropping steadily since the 80's.

This has been happening since literally humans existed. Culture rot makes the leap that this is new? It's a terrible, terrible scenario, but one that has been around since homo-sapiens existed.

I don't think that people have changed. The issue is more people and way more news access.

Yeah, back in the day i used to play a game with the girls where i would put a stocking over my head and hide in the bushes, jumping out on them. They would scream and run. Now when i try that they spray stuff in my face. Things have really changed.

A lot of this is true- the evolution of the internet and social media now makes us aware of so many more incidents that we may have just been unaware of in the past.

But I still say we need to crack down on bad guys, and teach the younger generations there are consequences for their actions (well, there should be...)
