Actually it is FDLE and they won't hold their people to the same rules they arrest other cops for.. I have NO problem.with arresting bad cops, I just want it across the board.

Especially in a stressful, combat situation. He is lobbying all States to equip SRO's with rifles so they can at least stand a chance. Being a handgun owner.....I agree....
That highly trained person is wrong. It's a one shot engagement and I have personally trained for that exact one. The reason being, every second counts. You wouldn't walk around school with a rifle slung over your shoulder would you? But when it's on where is that rifle at? Locked up somewhere that you don't have the motor skills to access cause you know people are dying? We did several diminution drills against another cop armed with an AR. It isn't as hard to neutralize as this highly trained person is saying.

Same thoughts was my first as well

Glock is NO MATCH for some nut with AR15 with huge supply of ammo unless you catch him by surprise

First, he did not know what firearm the kid had, so that concern was not part of the calculation

Second, and more importantly, if you are not up to the responsibility of putting your life on the line for the kids, then you have no business becoming a SRO

I'm the force on force instructor for our agency and like others have said, you engage. Single officer response is the most likely scenario. Studies have shown, (until the most recent ones at least), that mere officer presence on scene is enough to make the shooter either off themselves, or surrender.

I've only ever had one active shooter callout. Luckily I just happened to be bs'ing with another officer a couple blocks away when it came out. I always envisioned how I'd grab my helmet, my plate carrier with a thousand rounds and race in. I got on scene, grabbed my rifle and forgot my carrier, helmet, and spare ammo. So did the other officer. I didn't even realize I forgot to throw my sling over my shoulder. It's the most amped up I've ever been. Luckily it ended well.

The female supervisor Cracker mentioned earlier resigned shortly after.

Question for you LEO’s,
are you folks Not allowed to possess and carry in your vehicle your own personal long gun?

We're allowed to carry our own. We just have to qualify with it.

A cop with a vest and pistol has a way better chance against a AR than the kids had

Not a LEO but if I was you can bet your ass I’d have 1 or 2 in the trunk.

Small investment that could save lives.

It’s a dang shame command doesn’t make it mandatory to train/qualify all road officers with such weapons and issue such to each officer.

Any insight why they don’t?

Don’t tell me your suppose to wait for SWAT because that’s not always an option.

Every officer at our agency has a long gun, lvl 4 armor, ballistic helmet and med kit issued to them.

AR 10 or 15? You can differentiate between that and a mini14?

Carried my personal rifle for years. Had to be approved, and had to complete Patrol Rifle Course with iron sights. You could then qualify with
non-magnified optics (Had a Bushmaster with Aimpoint Pro). Numerous times it was a great comfort to be moving forward with a shouldered AR, vs Glock 22.

I retired in 2015 as a Sergeant with a medium sized SO in FL. (And worked briefly in GA for a bit after that)

My agency will BUT they issue us excellent ARs with a good red dot and a good light, no reason to bring our own.

We are also issued rifle armor and helmet and several magazines..

I feel well equipped but has stated it is easy to grab quickly and go..
