Default Grade changed

Department head sided with my son and over ruled his teacher.

She stated “the question as worded did not provide for one definitive answer and was open to multiple interpretations. Mrs. xxxx erred in not considering alternative answers that indeed are reasonable and justified.”

While I agreed that the teacher was wrong I will say you need to teach your son to be gracious and the bigger person and apologize for being disrespectful.

Have you apologized to the teacher yet? Being right but acting like an a@@ still makes you an a@@.

"just mark it as correct. I'm tired of getting calls and emails every 10 minutes. 2 more weeks and school is over"

I'd move my kid from that school if my administrators were as weak as that one was...

I don't think so, not in this case. Unless this was some college-level critical thinking course, the question as it was presented can easily be interpreted appropriately to get to the "right" answer without overthinking it. If your kid is reasonably able to think beyond the scope of the group/class he is in to find an alternate answer, that is great, but only if they can also relate to rational explanations. Pushing this up to the administration level is absurd.

Department head is not an administrator. The department head is not weak, she is reasonable and able to use critical thinking skills.

His answer did have rational explanations, which he explained. I did not appeal it to the department head, he did so on his own.

What is absurd is the closed minded thinking of his teacher.

Default 35 years a teacher

If my administrator pulled that crap, I would have been at the next school board meeting, lodging a complaint against the administrator.

And people wonder why students disrespect the teachers.

Yep. No wonder nobody wants to teach. What a waste of time this whole exercise was.

The real lesson to your kid was to understand context. I assume this was not a college course. Also maybe you should teach him that "a race" does not always mean Nascar.
