Default Cheap tropical trip for New Years??

Looking to take the fam somewhere tropical for New Years on the cheap. Wife will be graduating from school and deserves it but our budget is slim. 2-3 days max would like to fly there. We have a 4 year old daughter that will be going. Any recommendations??

The first thing to look at is airfare because that will determine what is "cheap". From the NE around the Christmas-New Years holidays airfare to the Caribbean is usually in the $900-1,300 per person range, making it hard to do any trip inexpensively.

Check airfare to Costa Rica. Maybe tough with a 4 year old though.

I imagine they'd be crowded, but not positive.

We just got back yesterday from Captiva island near Ft. Myers. It was awesome....and looked pretty much like the Caribbean.

Wouldn't exactly call it cheap though...probably ~$3200 all in for two people for 4 days (airfare included). We spent less than that for 8 days in the DR in May

Could be done cheaper...we got in the habit of spending $75 for lunch and $120 for supper...didn't really care, it's our only vacation for this year.

We did Cozumel a few years ago and it was perfect for a short tropical trip. Direct flights and (relatively) cheap and it was overall nicer than I expected.

Check out package deals on Travelocity or other sites. A few years ago I did an all inclusive in Jamaica for $1000 for 5 days including airfare per person.

Cozumel would be a nice place for a short vacation. Water remains warm, safe vacation spot. Key West is very crowded and not kid friendly on New Years, hotel prices are jacked up for the New Years Party.

If you can forego the NYE party on your vacay, drive to Tampa and do a 4 day cruise to the Caymans and Cozumel right after New Years, MUCH cheaper. Carnival has an interior cabin for $317 pp , don't know what charges a 4yo would add to that.

Best/cheapest would be a cruise that you can drive to departure point.
Not sure where inlet beach is, FL has 4 major cruise ports.

Why fly when you can take a boat? Decent prices without being completely held hostage like on a cruise. You could probably find a THT'er with a house for rent over there, combined with a boat ride over, and have a fairly inexpensive trip.

Holler with any questions about Cozumel. If I don't know the answer I will make one up.

3 day cruise will be cheaper than airfare.
