Default Retro style tach to work with modern LS3 engine.

I posted this a couple of years ago and got no answers so I hope there may be some new ideas out there. My neighbor wants to use a hood mounted tach like the ones that the 70's era Pontiac's and that other cars had. Buying the tach's are easy but verifying if the tach will work with a GM LS3 engine has been something that no one seems to be able to answer.

My neighbor is an older guy so he doesn't use the Internet so he again asked if I could possibly find out. The actual tach's are on eBay and there are other companies I found online that I can buy the actual tach from. I have talked to numerous people online along with a guy that is supposed to be an expert with Summit Racing. He told me that it's possible that an adapter could be used to convert the RPM signal to work with a modern LS3 engine but like everyone else has told me....he doesn't know for sure. Can anyone help figure this out? Or do you have a suggestion of someone else I can contact that can figure it out?

Dang that is some new info, THANKS! I looked on the LS3 forum and didn't find this info and I bet I have contacted at least a dozen companies that sell and modify tachs and nobody could help me figure this out.

I'm not sure what tach these guys are using but I am going to join the forum and try to find out.

Check out the AutoMeter gauges, AutoMeter.com. Just hooked one up last week to a new engine we dropped into a 65 Fastback. They have a list of which adapter you’ll need for the gauge/motor combo.

They don't have the type of tach I'm looking for but they have the adapters.
