Default real ID

If you have a passport, do you need a real ID?

No, but every time you want to fly - even domestic - you’ll need to bring your passport.

Correct. Passport can be used to fly after October, 2020.

If you have TSA global entry it also negates the need for real id or carrying a passport.

There are other aspects of the Real ID, besides flying.
If you do government work, your license will need to be Real ID compliant to gain access to government buildings.
All they do to make your license compliant is scan your passport data and upload it to your license but you must have the new style license.

If you’re asking about domestic travel, I would not want to risk loosing my passport by carrying it with me if an ID is all that’s required.

This will all be obsolete when they implant your chip.

Compare the size of France to, say Texas...or for, that matter, Texas to Western Europe. Density of development is much higher, cities much closer. Much easier to take a highway or hop a low-cost carrier than deal with trains.

Nope.....just went through this last week.

I had with me:
Old DL
Passport
birth certificate
electric bill showing address

This was NOT ENOUGH!

For the extra $30 bucks I went with the enhanced license.

I figured I would rather have the best/most detailed ID that I could if something bad happened.

Example:
Passport stolen abroad
National emergency
Last minute travel away from home where I can’t get passport.

All unlikely but for $30, I see no reason to not be prepared

Just my 2 cents.

I have a NEXUS and passport. Between the two I avoid the short arm inspection. Never had it but the Thousands Standing Around can do whatever they want
