Default Experience with Get Upside gas discounts

Looking for reviews on Get Upside gas discount app. I hear the radio ads daily, have seen older posts THT posts. I'm not interested in referral codes. I am curious about real experience. My guess is remote gas stations trying to attract business. While i would not drive 10 miles to save .05 per gallon for car fuel, i'd consider a drive to fill boat if discount proves out, especially if covers non ethanol. I'm in central Fl, not sure if is regional or nation wide. I have no experience with, not associated with in any way, not promoting, just curious about real experiences. Thanks, R

I use it all the time. I donít go out of my way to travel extra for a participating gas station, but always check if thereís one nearby. Simple to use and I wonít complain about getting money back.

Even though its $.50 here, $2.00 there, Iíve got over $100 back already. Money saved is money earned!

I drive a significant amount for work and get mileage to cover gas (>35k miles/year), so I buy a lot of gas and it makes a program like this a no brainer.

After about a year I would say my experience is “eh”. I will continue to use it but don’t expect to get rich. The gas stations using it aren’t necessarily “remote” as I never have trouble finding a station relatively close to me, but they are usually dumpier stations looking to add business. If you like the convenience of a really nice, new clean station with a bunch of amenities they’re unlikely to be in the program. No Wawa, race trac, etc.

Also the value back varies often. I’m sure it’s being driven by some algorithm but I can’t decipher the what/why. Occasionally a Mobil by my house will be 0.08 to 0.11 back and the next day it and all the stations around my house are 0.01.

I have yet to hit $75 this year and I buy a ton of gas. Figure I’ll be around $200 by year end and although that’s not a huge sum, it’s 200 bucks more than I would have had if I didn’t use it. So I’ll keep using it.

One other thing...I haven’t necessarily been looking for it but the participating stations around me don’t have ethanol free. The program also determines different cash back levels for different grades of fuel. If you find a participating station that has ethanol free that would be great, but the cash back might be different for that fuel or might not be offered at all, just on their regular grade gas.

If you do find ethanol free in the program I’m sure inquiring minds here would like to know...

Doesn't work at Costco and they already have the cheapest gas, plus with 4% back on the Costco card for gas makes its easier then tracking an app for the best deal. I work 1/2 mile from Costco and just fill up there on my normal routine, rotate cars with the wife who drives much more for work. Make sure her car is always full or mine is, plus our van for hauling kids.

Does this app work with the loyalty programs that the gas stations have? Shell Fuel Rewards, Exxon-Mobile Rewards+, Marathon Make it Count?

No. Sometimes Shell fuel rewards is better than the app, too.

My experience has been the app saves a penny or two a gallon at most compared to just using gas buddy and finding the cheapest nearby gas stations. Saying you earn $100 in a year with the app is irrelevant if we don't know what you could have bought gas from without the app at another station.

for the station loyalty program it , you dont get to double dip. if the loyalty is 5c off then the get up side is 10c off, get upside will only take the 5c off. instead of getting 15c off if that makes sence.

I have saved close to $300 so far. For me, both stations I use already have the cheapest gas then with 10-12 cents off per gallon, it makes it great to use.

I can't imagine any of these apps can beat Costco or BJ's if that's not too far out of the way for you. It's not worth it for me except when I actually am making a trip to Costco, their price for Premium is really a huge savings. I always drive the Camaro to buy premium instead of the truck even though fitting stuff in the Camaro is a big pain in the ass... mainly I'm a cheap bastard.

Costco here is at $2.97 for premium
Shell is $3.00 for premium + 15c gal back + shell fuel rewards

That is the cheapest shell in the area though which is convenient to my location. The highest price premium is 24c higher.

Right? I mean what's the deal? So they know where I buy my fuel... it's obvious after the first time. I always buy unleaded at the same place, and I always buy diesel at the same place... yet they pay me.

Costco and Sam's are not always the cheapest, particularly if you can exploit other discounts like rewards programs and discount gas cards. I try to get as many $50 gas cards as I can at Publix when they are $10 off.Add that to Shell rewards and you have a deal. Unfortunately Shell got in bed with Winn Dixie and Publix won't sell their cards now so I am at Speedway

I use it and cashed out $130 to date. A station right around the corner from my house was regularly 15-20 cents off with it plus bonus discounts. I bought gas there anyway so it was free money.
Got an amazon gift card

Costco card with the 4% back is the best deal I can find on premium. BJís is close but their premium gas sucks. I get much better gas mileage with the costco gas. I drive 60k miles a year so always open to learning about different deals.

Watch the Wednesday store flier (Publix) About once a month there is a $10 off coupon for a $50 gas card but you need to spend $50 on groceries. The coupon usually lasts 4 days. I try to ration my purchases over those 4 days to get as many coupons cashed as possible. The fliers are in the rack inside the store so you can have all you can qualify for. If they have rib steak on sale that week, $50 is chump change.
