Default Google Fi Data Issues

You guys are pretty good...there's always someone that seems to have a few idea (good and bad).

I got a extra data SIM for use in a hotspot (I know, Google doesn't support the idea but people do it). Activated it checked with checked within my account. Google says the SIM is good (data only).

The ZTE MF64 hotspot was purchased off eBay and is supposedly unlocked (I don't know how to verify this). The hotspot shows valid SIM and says Google Fi on the screen but no internet connectivity. I've also changed the APN to "h2g2 as they recommend.

I'm stumped on the issue as the hotspot definitely knows it's got a Google Fi SIM in it and it has multiple bars of 4G service.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Most likely still locked to TMO. Are those screen shots you logged in to the Admin page of the router? Does it give any prompt about unlock code when hard wired to router and bring up admin page?

Yes, those are logged into the admin page of the router. Google says the only changes you may have to make with an approved device (iPad or Android tablet) is change the APN to "h2g2".

I started to pay for an unlock code online just to see what would happen but then wondered how/where I'd enter it. I've done it with phones but never with a hotspot and I don't see anywhere on the admin page where I'd enter it.

Update- Tried the SIM in an old Galaxy S5 and it works perfectly. I can even hotspot that phone. So, the SIM is definitely active and works.

I'd prefer to run that SIM in a hotspot instead of a phone but that will be a fall back.

you can ask the seller in writing if its locked/unlocked/unlockable and each major carrier has a way to check if they give you the IMEID. i have had some luck getting things unlocked i bought off ebay even after being told by the seller its locked and not unlockable. YMMV.

I've had very sporadic like with different hotspots and routers supporting Google Fi sims, even when unlocked.

That's the feeling I'm getting from random threads in different places.

Worst case I that I can use my old Galaxy S5 as a hotspot
