Default Remember when?

Some little boys were out in our culdesac this evening riding their bikes and judging each otherís jumps off the small speed bump above my house on the road. I just happened to notice while I was mowing and it reminded me of the cards in the spokes and the motorcycle sound. I went and grabbed an old set of cards, my Gorilla tape and proceeded to hook up some young lads.

Didnít sound quite like what I remembered but I sure did enjoy watching them have fun. Sometimes itís nice to just disconnect, relax and just have fun.

What do you remember from when you were a kid?

edit: Iím 52 for the record.

I used thick cardboard to produce a real Harley sound. I'd spend hours dialing it in!

Catching crawdads in the creek with my dog
Riding dirt bikes every day after school
Having wheelie riding contests with the neighborhood on our bikes
Granddad letting me drive the boat

And tons of other stuff.

I had 3 old lady neighbors that would call the cops every time the football bounced into their yard. I'm sure they're burning in hell by now.

Making forts in the woods, BB guns and slip and slide on the slanted driveway (if we went to one of todays doctors our parents would be locked up when they saw the bruises)

Fishing in golf course ponds and similar places. Catching sunfish and even large suckers and having a lot of fun doing it.

Yup bikes and every style of ramp possible...
Home made "go karts" but the kind for big hills on the road...no engine. No brakes either. We lived.
Skiffs...until we were old enough for our parents to let us take the "big boat" out (that was around 12 years old). And we'd tow ANYthing behind the boat.
Winter time...going out on the ice. Be it the salt water cove...often falling through. Or ponds. And riding bikes on the ice in the cove. Yup fell a lot when it was bare ice.
BB gun wars
Fireworks all the time...real ones.
Tree forts
.22 rifles...we'd walk down the road with them over our shoulders as we went over friends houses..to go deep into the woods squirrel hunting. Nobody thought twice about a kid with a little .22 rifler walking down the street.
Riding bikes EVERYwhere
Mowing neighbors lawns to make money
Shoveling neighbors driveways to make money
Paper routes to make money
Riding bikes to the arcade down town to spend our money
Got my boaters license at age 12 and was able to get a "big boat"...so my first boat was a cathedral hull Pisces bow rider, 17', with a 70 Evinrude on the back. Had that boat all over our little tri state corner (SE CT, RI..Watch Hill/Napatree, Block, NY...Fishers Island)
Yard Jarts
Frisbees
Whiffle ball
Camping out in tents in the yard..and then in the woods
Outdoor stashes of porn magazines
Basically ANY reason to be outside..we were outside from the minute we got home from school, til dinner..and then back out again.

Doing the "Twist"
Bike headlights that worked off of the generator you put on the front wheel.
Delivering newspapers with the bag secured to the handlebars of your bike that had the paper name on it (The Newark Evening News in my case) and being so cold in the winter you couldn't feel your hands
Ice skating from dawn to dusk, going home to eat dinner and going back to night skateand listening to the expansion cracks
Boy Scout camp
Walking to the bus stop , if you lived 2 miles or more from the school, the town provided a bus but you had to walk to the stop, if not? you walked to school.
No meat on Friday's...ever.
Christmas caroling (for money)
shoveling snow, mowing lawns and raking leaves for money.
Going down to the local supermarket to help the ladies bag their groceries and load them into their cars for them (for tips)
Egg Creams

being able to walk alone through our town selling greeting cards and then garden seeds.
paper route where you had to collect cash from customers, no worries there either
sledding the big hills
riding bikes down snow covered hills to see how far you got before going over the bars
summer camp, learning to flip the canoe
getting "walked" home by a neighbor when you got caught doing something wrong. if they didn't swat your ass on the way, your dad nailed you twice as hard.
I saved up money to buy a really nice BMX bike, thing could fly off ramps. when we moved back here as adults, (my girlfriend and I) we ran into an old friend. first thing he mentioned to her was that bike and the crazy fool who like to fly on it.
oh yeah the scars that came with the bikes and everything else we did.

in our teens, cruising in cars
drive in movies
being able to wrench on our own cars
prettiest girl in school wanting a ride on my motorcycle

Moved past the guns and figured out I could smash the whole role at one time. The need for fireworks was created.

Heck yeah...those lights on the bike..."faster...brighter...faster...brighter...ho w bright can you make yours? Faster faster!"

And yeah...those long walks to/from the bus stop. LOL and I remember for a while my body got used to the "afternoon dump"...so it sucked walking home having to pinch a loaf. Remember ducking into the woods a few times to drop a log behind a tree.

Ha...yeah my 3rd grade teacher was a smoke show. But she hated me.

And was a C U Next Tuesdsy. Or maybe it's because she taught English and I let her know many times what a waste of time that class was.

Boys life...man I used to read that all the time
Carrying a pocket knife
Making rubber band guns in school and not becoming a national news story
Square pizza dipped in ranch at school
Boy scout trips
Long summer days at the lake...every weekend May-September
