I've had maaaany, maaaaaaany interactions with cops in MA hahaha. I start of polite, respectful (turn car off, wheels turned hard to curb so I can escape quickly, interior lights on, both hands on the wheel). Ask if I can reach into my pocket to get my wallet. If they are nice I am nice. If however they start with the lecturing,, power trip stuff, then I say as little as possible and admit to nothing, often not answering their questions and accept my ticket. I give it to my atty and he pays court costs and gets it adjudicated.

50% are just doing their job
25% are on a power trip
20% are polite
5% are actually nice

I'm actually running traffic right now in a downpour. It would take a lot to get me out of my truck tonight. I usually will pull you over at 10 to 14 over and give a lecture. If you're not a d bag you'll be on your way. At 15+ you're getting a ticket unless you have a good excuse. And a good excuse isn't "I wasn't paying attention".

Never had a pleasant interaction w/ a MA state cop, airport, gillette stadium, DCR beach...(I have never been pulled over by one)...they are always hardos

That said, town/city/other state cops (ME, FL, NH)...best people (even the ones I'm related to)

I have had a few bad interactions with LE when I was young, dumb and cocky (punk), that was well over 30 yrs ago and all on me. Since then, zero problems and I have been pulled over quite a few times, was respectful/honest and I only have one ticket in 30 yrs and all my fault. Was towing my boat at 3 am on the Ventura fwy, no traffic to speak of so I was in the 2nd lane opposed to the 1st lane where I should of been and knew it but a couple of big rigs were slowing things down. I was in the 2nd lane when CHP pulled up beside me, got on the bull horn and said get over where you belong please, nice rig, good luck. I did as ask but a few minutes later pulled out to pass big rigs but stayed there way to long and was in the 2nd lane when the lights came on behind me. Same LEO came walking up to the truck and ask me if I knew why I was pulled over. I said yes sir, I already had all my paperwork in my hand and said I deserve it. He came back a few minutes later with just a WARNING ticket because I was honest and respectful. I think he was a fisherman, just a guess but either way, I have tons of respect for all LEO. 9 times out of ten, if you end up in any type of confrontation with LE, it's due to the way you acted.. I know this from first hand experience. Stay safe out there and thank you for your service.

For those with badges that are guilty of such it’s not a good idea to jump to conclusions without knowing all the facts of the entire situation and conversation which took place between the officer and I.

I come on THT to praise an officer for showing compassion and understanding and a few with badges appear to be trying to prove me wrong about the thread title.
But hey, you all keep doing a great job out there. Thank you & God Bless ya.

If any of you officers replying in this thread want a little insight just try searching my post since the end of January.
This is only the tip of the ice berg I’ve been dealing with.

When under great deals of stress people have a tendency to not make sounds decisions occasionally, this was one of those brain farts.
We have all had them.
Again, I make no excuses for my actions but as already stated, my mind has been else where recently due to such stress.

And for the record, I haven’t had a ticket in 36 years since the Georgia incident.

^^^ A speeding ticket is not the end of the world and doesn't say you are a hardened criminal. Now tickets for 10 or less over the speed limit are chicken sh!t for sure in my opinion but to be honest, even for the Cracker it would have been tough not giving you a ticket as that is like going 65mph in a 35 zone. You obviously were oblivious to what was going on around you and a possible danger at that speed..

I am glad it worked out for ya but you must be living life right. I might also add that if you had gotten a ticket, at that speed you earned the ticket and that in no way is the officer being a Jerk just for writing it. Glad the encounter worked out how you wanted, please drive carefully we love our members here on THT and don't want to lose any..

I was hurt pretty badly and hit my head on the curb. I dont remeber much, about the actual hit, but when I came to, I was cuffed with his knee in my back and tried to arrest me. Luckily it was actually on a Columbus road so CPD showed up and made him let me loose and called an ambulance. Concussion, broken rib and about 40 stitches total. This was 20+ years ago.

EVERY other experience with Law enforcement has been very professional and only got citations when I deserved it. And probably deserved many more citations than I have received.
Most of, if not all of the larger colleges have state commissioned police departments.

Same around here; less than 14 over on the highway won't get you stopped by the state troopers but if I'm in Georgia I know the local departments patrol the interstate heavily for revenue and 10 is their magic number. Thankfully with Waze everyone listening to it knows where they are.

LEO’s deal with 10% of the population 90% of the time. When they run into the “other 90%” of us, we should expect a little attitude now and again. Courtesy and respect go a long way to someone that is steeped in the filth of humanity all day everyday.

Hahaha, I'm glad I'm not the only one. MA state troopers are hard asses for sure.

Anyone drive a sprots scar of any kind, Corvette, Camaro, Mustang? I'm in my truck 99% of the time and cops of all kinds barely give a look. And in many situations will slightly go out of their way to let me through work areas etc. I get into my red transam.............LOL! Not only do they look at me like they're ready to hunt me down and destroy me, they'll follow me for miles just to see if I make that one mistake. Had a MA SP pull me over at a red light because he thought I was using my phone. What happened was it rang, I picked it up to see who was calling on the caller ID and pressed ignore and put it down on the passenger seat. Woooop! siren and lights and statie comes over and asks me why I was using my phone (this is stopped at a red light, mind you, after he'd been following me for about 1-1/2 miles) while his partner is scanning the passenger and backseats. I told him I wasn't, just looked at the caller ID when it rang and put it back down. Came back with a $240 ticket. I was pissed off to no end!!!! Now sorry about this, but that's a jerk! I fought it and only got it reduced but it still ended up costing me on my insurance.

But get this, now I'm pissed and heading home in that same, red transam and I get about 5 miles away and pull up to another red light and who's next to me? Another cop but this was a townie. I'm thinking I wonder what will happen and don't think much of it since I was driving fine but I decide to take a left at the lights and get home through a different route and I see him go straight and I'm thinking great, that's the end of it. About a mile away cruising down a country road between corn fields and who pops out of a tight, side street right behind me? Yup, you guessed it, the same cop at the lights. He proceeds to follow me for the next 3-1/2 miles and I'm literally 2 blocks from my house and Woooop! Siren, lights etc. Now I'm beyond pissed and in major WTF stage. Turn car off and wait while the guy literally takes 10 friggin minutes, hand-combs his hair in the mirror, puts his hat on, sips the remaining coffee in his cup and takes his sweet ass time getting out of the car and walking over. By then I had lost it because I know I didn't do anything wrong and this guy is just stalking me because of the car. I stick my head out the window before he reached the back end and I go off! "What the hell is wrong with you guys and this car of mine today?" He gets all freaked out and stops in his tracks and puts his hand on his gun and just looks at me. I'm going off screaming "I just got a ticket from another cop 10 minutes ago for something I didn't do and now you're following me for 3 miles and pulling me over what the hell is it about this gaddam car that's got you guys bent out of shape?!" He puts his other hand out and says relax buddy, take it easy I just wanted to tell you your rear break lights are acting funny and blinking irregularly, something is wrong with them that's all. Calm down, what happened at the other stop?? I proceeded to tell him and we had a nice conversation and I pointed to my house look, I live right there! That ended well without him even checking my license etc. but 2 pull-overs in 10 minutes in that car and there is NO WAY this guy saw any of my lights until he was behind me because I came to the red light when he was already there and was never behind me at any point until he chased me down. That's what pissed me off. If I was an old lady in a minivan or even in my truck, neither of those guys would've given two hoots like they did.

Nothing is that important, except emergencies (life or death) and then only to a degree of safely NOT operating a vehicle beyond your capabilities or road conditions permitted.
THTers never admit fault, even when at fault...

gotta step up your game, lol.

CA CHP are always pretty cool up here in Norcal. I have been pulled over quite a few times for a whole host of offenses and I have never had a bad interaction.

Most of the times I haven't even recieved a ticket. Only the most egregious offenses have resulted in tickets and I totally deserved them.

Towing a skidsteer at 88 got me a ticket. Only allowed to ever tow 55 in CA.

Awesome extreme power braking in the Shell Station in front of the diesel pump with a Prius and a lady on her phone sitting there got me an unsafe display of speed ticket. Expensive one that was I'll tell ya. Insurance went up 45 a month.

Passing on shoulder got me a ticket for leaving the roadway and reckless driving. I argued 2 tickets for the same offense was horseshit and Judge just gave me reckless driving. Another doozy for insurance!!

Everytime the police were totally cool though.

The one ticket that was bullshit and pissed me off was I saw a plumbers truck smash a blacktail and keep going. I immediately pulled over and started getting the backstraps out. Cop was passing and pulled over on the 101. An officer pulled over and acted like I was the devil incarnate. He actually asked me "who in their right mind would stop and cut up a roadkilled deer". I told him it wasn't really roadkill as I saw it just get hit. It was totally fresh. Shit it was completely warm still. He didnt care.

He called a Fish and Game Officer and I had to wait with him until the warden came and gave me a ticket for possesion of a deer out of season. 250 for that ticket and I wasn't even allowed to keep any of the deer. Chickenshit ticket to the max. Only bad police experience ever for me.
