Default iMac deals? Need a new 27"

Just as it says. My 27" iMac is shot. Won't power on. Tried unplugging the cord from the back and holding power button. Then reinserting and trying again. Must be the power supply inside, we had a power failure.

What's the best way/place to get a deal on a new one? Other than paying full MSRP at apple store?

Only deal is refurbished by apple and they will vary in discount and availability. Look for the refurb section on their website.

Apple JUST refreshed the Imac line about a month ago, so you can either find a previous-generation (2017) for a slight discount, or buy new. I've bought from bhphotovideo.com before and been happy with the purchase. They had a sale a couple weeks back for $200-300 off the previous gen 27"s but looks like that is no longer the case. B&H Photo doesn't charge sales tax in many states which can save you some $ depending on which model you're looking at.

I've been casually watching to see if anyone blows the previous gens out for cheap but I'll probably end up with a new model later this year.

We've bought used from macofalltrades several times for Mrs K's business. I think we've sold a couple back as well. Never had a problem and they always came just as described.

What year is your iMac?

As others have said Refurbished units are a great way to go. Another way to lower the price is to get a 21.5 inch

Apple has a decent discount for active, retired military, and veterans. There are also discounts for educators and students.

I've used them a few times for previous model years new old stock. Can be one of the better deals around.

But, consider this:

A huge amount Apple's profits come from all the upgrade components. In this case, the iMac screen and form factor adds a lot to the price if you don't need the higher power graphics card (gaming, image/video processing, etc) the Mac Mini may be a better deal at $1300 +
nice looking 27" Monitor from Amazon nice looking 27" Monitor from Amazon
for vs $1900 for the comparable iMac with SSD drive if you can use your mouse and keyboard from the old one.

Whatever you do get, get the SSD as your primary drive. You can get an external for additional storage and your system will be much faster with the SSD as primary.

How old is your iMac? Perhaps it's worth fixing, but keep in mind if you got a surge it may be more than the power supply - it may be the logic board as well.

I planned on fixing this one on my own time and donating to our 10yr old daughter. However, I just got it working after leaving it unplugged all day and trying again while in hold with BH photo buying a new one. So....looks like I have a bit longer with this one. Its 8yrs old.

Just moved all my files over to dropbox gonna wipe it and reinstall fresh OS.

If you were in my area I know where two fairly hot rod 27" units are heavily discounted. Or anyone else... if they still there. I got one of the discounted ones about two weeks back. Two were left at that point. They were demo models and upscale. Clemson U on campus Apple store has/had them. They were on their Facebook page and may still be.

Just checked. They both still there according to this. You do not have to be a student or employee to buy either of these. Available to the public.

These are in original boxes and very mint. One is a demo and one a previous model

Costco sells Apple now. Best Buy and Microcenter usually discount them as well. But why not just get the thing repaired?

Don't really need to upgrade, but interested in knowing. Spent a few minutes on the Apple site after reading this. Refuse to give my personal information to a the 'ID' company just to find out the amount of discount. I have a late 2015 21.5" that I'd like to upgrade to a 27" found it interesting that they'd give me just shy of $400 on trade in... Not too bad.. I am half thinking of replacing my first iPad with a new bigger one, the old one don't have enough memory to hold all my emails I took took all my email accounts off of it.

That discount is around 10%. The base model 27" iMac is $1619 with the military discount. $1799 without. IDme will give you access to lots of military discounts with other companies too.

Whatever you do don't buy extra Ram from Apple, I love apple but good grief they rip people off on Ram. You can find Ram for half the price and its very easy to install on any iMac

I just purchased a MacBook from Best Buy that was returned. I was missing the power cable. Comes with a 1 year APPLE warranty from the date of my purchase. I saved $700 on the deal.
