Default Full Metal Jacket or Platoon ??

Really like both of these Vietnam era movies but have to say FMJ is my favorite

Very good friend of mine, like a big brother 2 me, has 2 Purple Hearts from Nam and told me he has never been able to sit down and watch Platoon. He did tell me that R Lee Emery in opening scene of FMJ was as accurate as it could be at The Island in his day

Which do you like best

FMJ... definitely a pretty close approximation to what I experienced in boot camp at Parris Island, Platoon 2007... and I’d agree that Ermey was VERY accurate to what I experienced.

My father in law (God rest his departed soul 2014) was a US Marine in Vietnam 1967, year I was born. A year of Hell he said, but some good memories.

Watching Platoon right now on Sundance channel!

Both are great. FMJ isn't as serious (for most of the movie), in my opinion, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Those basic training scenes and insults are some of the best!

It all depends on my mood at the time. Both have their place.
