Default car sales scam ??

My daughter is trying to sell her car on CL and autotrader.com. She received a text from a potential buyer that wants her to provide a specific car history report from Autotirereport.com. The buyers phone number is not local and caller ID says its a United States Phone number. Googling Autotirereport.com brings up nothing. We decided it is probably a scam to get her Credit Card info.

Have any of you heard of Autotirereport.com?

I’ve never needed to provide that sort of report for private party sale. I don’t think you guys would either.

Scam, I am selling a car and 15 emails a day says they will buy if I provide a report. Another 4 or 5 will ask a couple of questions and then say "When I am selling a car, I use (add whatever name you want to call it) to get a car fax report and it will help you sell your car, go to this website to order." Unfortunately, Craigslist is worth exactly what the ad costs......nothing.

When selling my truck recently, I paid for a Carfax report and would provide a copy of it to interested buyers...

I did not fall for the scams trying to get me to support another site or to get CC info.

Whatever happened to putting a three line ad in the local newspaper for $35 for a month and selling it in person to someone who truly wanted to buy your car and was not out to screw you over...?

Aaahhhh....Progress...

Well, the 3 line car ad went out with the Sears-Roebuck catalogue, the Phone book and the Auto Parts counter guy that could pull a starter solenoid for a ‘69 Mustang without needed a computer

Thanks for the replies

And not have you find out it's a brake rotor to a 78 Pinto when you get home!

Put the ad on Facebook Market Place (surely she is on FB?)
I have been using it for a few months and it is very busy!
I sold a pressure washer in 3 hours, bought a boat at 1/2 market value!
Only FB people can respond and you can see their profile and location.
I have given up on CL for selling.
