Charter Lakes has handled my boat(s) for years. I had to make a big claim last year after running aground on a submerged/moving bar and it was so seamless, professional and hassle free that I wish I could have them handle my cars and motorcycle too-

Well, seems like charter lakes dropped XL Specialty insurance and the rates I got now is absurd.

There has been quite a bit of disruption in the US Marine Insurance marketplace this year, due to capacity and reinsurance. XL was no exception.
We always search the available markets anytime a premium increases more than 3% or $50; to provide our customers with the best coverage options for the best price.

We only work with A rated or better companies and search for the best value for the coverage.

Spoke to Mark and he heard and understood my concerns, he agreed with what I showed him and we are working towards a resolution

two weeks later, I receive a check back for the value of the policy minus the credit card charge (funny that you still keep my credit card charge when you cancel my policy before it even takes effect). not a word on the check as to why it was sent back, not an email telling me that why you sent the check back.
So today I decided to call back and find out why you sent me the check. again, I talked to Kim J who didn't have a clue as to why my policy got cancelled or why I received a check, we have talked today about 5 times, every time a new excuse, first, that XL dropped me, then that you are not writing with XL anymore (so which one is it????), then that the web payment went to the wrong policy (HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHERE THE PAYMENT WENT????, if you can't figure out where to post the payment, how's that my fault? if your website can't figure out which policy to renew when there is no other renewal quote, how is it my fault????), then that progressive changes prices daily, my question to her was why did my quote change when I sent you the form back and paid in full. then that the policy was in effect but it was set for direct billing (apparently another lie), then that there was a claim on my previous policy and that changed the cost, well genius, why didn't you put that in the original quote if you are my insurance agent and have my current policy????
then she told me one price for the new quote, then she changed it again to $100 more. I asked to talk to her boss who "conveniently" is out of the office, so I asked to talk to HIS boss and I am still waiting for a call back.

What would have happened if I would have been out of town and never received a cancellation notice or didn't check the mail while out? I expected my policy to be effective 8/1 because I did everything I was asked to do and never heard back from you.

this would have been my 3rd renewal with Charter Lakes and up to today I was pretty happy with your service, but after today's debacle, I am going to have to look somewhere else, I can't risk to have an accident and "suddenly" my boat is not covered because your employees are CLUELESS. if you would have told me that I dealt with 23 different people during this process, I could have understood, but the whole process was with Kim J who started blaming other people, it was never her fault, always someone else, even though she is the only one in the whole process.

I expect a call back from either Chad or his boss so I can let him know why I am dissatisfied with your service and I will file a claim with the Florida insurance commission if you don't honor the original policy that I paid in full at the time you requested. if you need my phone number, you can ask Kim, she should have given it to Chad's boss.

I am going to give you one more chance to fix this mess.

Sam

Hi Sam - Thank you for taking my call and my apologies again for all the confusion we caused you. It was definitely an error on our end with communication on the new policy that was offered to you, the reasons for the different premium changes, and clear instructions on how to pay for the new policy renewal offer. I will address this for you ASAP and will contact you back with clarification including the exact premium, payment options, and instructions.

Thank you for your time again this morning and allowing me to understand and address this issue. We appreciate your business and definitely value you as our client. I hope we can continue to service you as your marine specialty agency.

Sincerely
Mark VanEpps
