Default Military Appreciation Day Morehead City - we need fishermen

MAD MHC is rapidly approaching and we are seeing massive registrations from active duty servicemen and not enough boats to take them fishing

If you are interested and able, please volunteer to take some fishing on June 3

Click on the banner in my sig line and volunteer please. It would really stink if we had to turn people away for the first time since our founding in 2006

get on board fellas. It's a great time and rewarding experience. I did for the first time last year and immediately marked my calendar for this year. The service men and women will never forget you for it.

inshore or offshore. the troops really don't care, they just want to be on a boat for a day and forget about things we can't imagine (unless you've been there obviously).

i'm towing my boat up from Charleston, and this will be my 5th Morehead event. i think that much fun.

please join us in thanking these young men and women for their service. without them, we might not have the freedom to own boats and tow them from place to place.

if you can't make it to Morehead, there are 4 other events. the one in Charleston is in November.

Inshore, near shore, off shore, kayak, surf....just get them on the water.

This is not a tournament. It is a day to say a simple Thank You to the active duty men and women who serve this country in a military uniform.

You do not have to be an experienced fisherperson. Trolling just off shore for Spanish is just fine.

You may have service men/women who have never been on a boat. They all seem to like catching sharks. Anything.

Friday evening June 2 we have a Captain's meeting and meal at Morehead City Park on Arendel St. Saturday June 3 you will meet your military at a place of your choice and at the time you decide. Most folks pick up their military at JC docks in Morehead City.

During the day Saturday June 3 we will be entertaining the family members with kids fishing, boat tours, Pirate boat, Treasure hunt, games, bands/music, face painting and a host of other things.

Saturday at lunch, family members and land based volunteers will be eating hot dogs and hamburgers and lots more. Saturday evening at approximately 5:00-5:30 we will be putting on a feast of huge pork chops, two whole hogs, chicken and all the trimmings prepared by our own Hobo Junction cooking crews and Smithfield Foods.

If you go away hungry, it will be your own fault.

All of this is absolutely free to active duty military and their families.

You will meet some fantastic people, make some friends for life and smile one heck of a lot.

Please sign up your boat to take one, two, three....or a dozen military out fishing.

We can not guarantee Mother Nature or that you will catch fish (that is up to your abilities...lol). But we can guarantee that you will smile a lot. AND when you put your head on your pillow that night, YOU will have a big assed grin from ear to ear and a big smile in your heart.

It is a FUN weekend!

Sign up at militaryappreciationday.org. Click on Morehead City and you will see the rest.

I have made contact with my guys already and they are pumped. Just their excitement on the phone lets you know it's worth it.

Once you sign up, we take care of the rest.

Enter your registration on the website

A volunteer will match you up with guests to go fishing for the day

You contact your guests and go over your boat rules, tell them what to bring and what not to bring. It is your boat, your rules but we do have ONE rule and that is our guests are not allowed to pay a single penny. Tell them what time to be at the dock on Saturday June 3

On Friday night June 2, come to the volunteer meeting and we will share fishing info, spots and a great meal

On Saturday June 3, hail the MAD dock on the radio. If your guests are there we will bring you into a dock and we will tie you up and bring your guests to you then off fishing you go

Fish inshore, offshore, nearshore or heck beach the boat and fish from shore!

When you get back we will have fish cleaners to clean your catch and another amazing meal and entertainment at the end of the day

Give it a shot! Right now we had to close guest registration because we are far, far short of having enough fishing spots available.

In years past we had up to 120 boats, this year we have less than 60 so PLEASE volunteer if you can

I cant make the MHC MAD but I already registered for Southport. I have family out from CA and their plane leaves Saturday.

This is my first year owning a boat and I am a Army Vet of 10 years 1987-1997. God Bless all of you who volunteer your time and boats for a awesome country!

Ive had the privilege of being able to go out on these trips. I really appreciated the captain and crew taking the day to come fish with a bunch of Marines..fortunately for me i live near the ocean and am able to fish a lot, just wish i had my own boat or id be a volunteer!! Its a great day, i won a couple raffles too.. this year im looking forward to the Kingfish Cup. Maybe MAD can become a tournament with neat prizes.. that would be cool.

We had to close guest registration because we ran out of fishing spots

With less than three weeks until the big day, we need volunteers and as many as we can get.

If you are on the fence, please give it a shot

I'll be signing up later in the week. I'm out of town and don't have my boat registration numbers with me. Count me in though.

Man, good deal. Seems like a lot of good opportunities for veterans and boat owners right now.

I just rec'd this this morning for this weekend. If you have some guys that still want a chance to fish, send them to this event:

Keep an eye out on the MAD website, the MAD Charleston facebook page, here, and/or charlestonfishing.com. Our Charleston event is Nov. 11 so we won't be opening up registration until probably September.
