Default Military Appreciation Day

There is a noble cause in NC on May 20th.

A bunch of good folks are organizing a Military Appreciation Day for enlisted folks and it is getting huge.

The only people that stand to profit from this are:
1. Our military folks.
2. You, from knowing that you helped.

They need more boats to help take these people fishing.

The organizers are taking care of a liability waver.

You can get more information by clicking here.

Do what you can!!

It is nice to be able to give something back to these people that help me sleep at night.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend.

I am sure there will be some great pictures and stories.

don't know how to post pic here, but if you scroll down to the t-shirt, I think that is what they are going to stick with.

Hot Spot,
Thank you for posting this information. Since I do not participate here much anymore, I did not know if it was acceptable to do so.

I am one of the organizers of this event and if anyone wants any information please let me know and I will provide.

Basically, we are putting together a day to say thanks to all of our active duty military men and women. The event is going to take place at Coast Guard Station Ft. Macon on Armed Forces Day (May 20).

We have chartered the Carolina Princess and are signing up volunteer boats. In total we hope to have the capacity to take 150 active personnel out fishing.

After fishing we are planning a cook out for 300 - 400 people.

The real challenge is that we just decided to do this about a month ago. So from start to finish, we are putting the whole thing together in about three months.

Our most critical need right now is boat volunteers. We are about 65% complete on our fund raising goals, but need private boat capacity to handle a few more people. We are looking for nearshore boats, offshore boats and inshore boats. Whatever you are comfortable with, we have an opportunity.

Hot Spot thanks again for posting this and again, if anyone has any questions or would like to help out please let me know.

Schoolsout - The tshirt design we are considering was done by someone named Jeff Fuquay, but that is all I know about that.

Same guy. He is Nughi on the other site. Does very good work from the little I have seen from him. He is supposed to be getting into the vinyl decal work also. He's designing a name for 2 of my friends.

All,
I hate to sound like a beggar, but this is for a good cause. If you are free on May 20 and have a boat that you would be willing to take an active duty military member fishing, let me know. We have just about reached our capacity of 120 spots for service men and would love to be able to bump that up to 150 or more.

The cookout and the "special effects" the Coast Guard is going to provide will be worth it alone! There is a rumor going around that "Pedro" may be stopping by for a demonstration, but that is just a rumor.

Thanks for your time.

GREAT PROGRAM!

As an enlisted guy myself, I have been toying with the idea of doing just this exact type of event for our Airman on Langley AFB and Fort Eustis.

I would like to volunteer and would be willing to drive down there to contribute, but I need to check my calendar first..

Where is it located an how is the funding going to work? Are you helping the private boat owners pay for some of the fuel costs? I'm am just curious. If I sign up, I don't mind paying for the truck fuel but if we are going offshore 40 - 50 miles, the boat fuel and bait can add up as you know.

Donations are on track for us to cover the costs of the event right now. We have raised approximately $7000 in the last three weeks and hope to raise another $3000 before the event. That will cover the costs of the head boat we chartered, food and hopefully enough for tshirts for the people we get to thank.

We have not budgeted anything to help with the cost of running the boats, but I can certainly appreciate your concerns. I am towing my boat close to 6 1/2 hours to get there and plan to fish about 30 miles offshore. We did discuss possibly chipping in to help some of the boats with costs, but then it became too similar to hiring a vessel. Since the event is being held at the Coast Guard Station, we decided it might not be in the best interest of the event if we took that chance.

It will be costly, but that and my time are my donations.

We currently have the greatest need for nearshore boats if that is something you would consider.

Wow.. In the last two days we have seen our registrations sky rocket! We are now wait listing anyone who signs up as there is no possible way we can keep up with demand.

Our goal was to take 150 out fishing, but as of a few minutes ago there are 220+ registrations.

Guys, if you are even remotely considering helping out and saying thanks to our military men and women in person, please sign up to bring your boat and take a couple of these American Heroes out fishing.

It does not matter if you have a jon boat and want to go spot fishing or a 110 foot yacht to run to the gulf stream.

Sign up and help out if you can so we can take as many of our military men and women fishing for the day!

Please consider helping out with this. It is a great project that Squid Row and others have taken on. I will be proud to have some of our military on my boat and I am sure you would be too. Most of these guys will not be experienced fishermen and will not have the opportunity to be on the water very much so they will enjoy the boat ride as much as anything. You don't have to be a guide or a great fisherman to do this. If you can't be there please consider a monetary donation. There will be a bunch of people to feed. If you have any questions just ask Squid Row.

I agree 100%...This is a great event plus a good way to meet other boaters/anglers while doing something to show these brave people who give so much to allow us the freedom to live as we do in this country how much we appreciate them.

Hello boys, not to belabor a point, but if you have a boat and time sign up with Squid Row. I'm hauling a pick-up load of hickory 240 miles to supply wood for the BBQ. It's the least I could do.

As of about 3:00 today (I left work early to go play golf LOL) we had the Carolina Princess plus 34 private boats!

Plus donations are approaching the $10,000 mark!

The plans are really shaping up and we hope that next year we will be able to more than double the size of this event!
