They're not too bad, make good sandwiches. They're like a knock-off triggerfish as far as the meat goes.

Is the meat more like a Swordfish steak and firm or like a white flaky meat like Grouper?

It's kind of odd that I see conflicting reports about Spadefish. I have heard a TON of people talk about how delicious they are, and some others say they are basically inedible. Considering I have not seen one in about 15 years, I'd love to hear a new report about how they taste.

I've always regarded them as pretty good table fare. I cook them the same way I do triggerfish, and they both end up on sandwiches. Spadefish are a bit more unattractive when first cleaned, the meat is greyer but cooks very clean and white.

Catching them is a ton of fun here, if Im ever taking guests/kids out and I can get some of these in the net:

We're heading to catch some spadefish, they put up an excellent fight on light tackle, easy to catch and a great way to put meat in the box for kids and guests.

I have liked spadefish. I am not a huge fan of eating fish and get plenty of Mahi, Snapper, Grouper and other nice fish so that I don't need to murder any poor spadefish with their gray meat.

That is the ticket. I string them up and lower them down, then use pieces of the jelly on the hook and hold on. They are good to eat and fun to land.
