To put it simply, it was rough. We fished Saturday and we were one of very few who ventured offshore we headed to the shark hole and pulled up just short and fished for a few hours with no love. Then headed inshore just south of the parking lot that had formed off oak island. As with fishing the beach its hero or zero and we ended with the latter.

Yes that was last years. Here is this years event results. Tough fishing, we were lucky to find a good fish for sure. Congrats to all who not only placed but caught a fish! The sea condition was really not bad Saturday at all, the weather person really did us a favor by dropping the precip chances from 80% to 40% Friday afternoon, turned out to be no rain on us at all... Again, good job guys and good luck in the US Open to the team that decide to fish!

The beach bite was very good on Saturday. Just not everyone was able to pull a fish but that can be the case when there are a lot of boats fishing one area. Similar to the Jolly Mon VIP.

Be interesting to see what this Tropical Storm does for this weekend

Thanks athan. (I didn't even check the names or date on it). Nice job on y'all's fish. Contender row was looking good Friday night all lit up. We had one bite on the beach and that was it for us. Anybody know if Kendall caught his fish up north towards the parking lot where everyone was or south. He past us around 1:30-2:00 heading south and then he was at the scales right at 3:00 we came in early due to leaking oil.

I think he was around the pier with the fleet. I fished Sunday with @ 55 other boats there and we didn't get bit. Not even a shark.. We committed to the area there and stuck it out all day with no love. Saw a few get caught but not our day.. Still was a good day on the water with great friends!

Fished there til around noon with nothing then went off to some ledges near shark hole. Had a good fish on flat line and he tail wrapped on second run and was gone. Slow rough way to spend Sunday . I feel like getting some vengeance on some King Mackerel now.

Not sure they want me telling their business but thought it was pretty cool. The first, third and my fish came within 10 mins of each other and we 3 were in a pack of 6/8 boats in the parking lot that were working some bait. He caught that fish just after we boated ours. Both teams were very excited after a lack luster year to say the least!
The bite was not "good" by any means Saturday, but much better than Sunday from what I understand. The fish are there for sure. Saw several large fish skying on surface bait near our boat. Unfortunately, our fish was not the size of the few we saw in the air! Good luck to you guys fishing the open, we will miss it this year!
And yes sir thanks, Contender Row was looking amazing. Contender is really putting together something special for those who are fortunate to ride one, they are staying involved and supporting those who support them which is all a team can ask for out of a boat builder!

There is definitely an art to pulling a big fish out of a crowd like that. Nice job.

Hate to hijack a thread.just a little twist. about 4 years ago Kendal called me and asked if I could build a set of portable outriggers for his new then stepped 35 contender. New. And he is a doctor. He had no intention of ever putting outrigger holders on the boat? I did not understand that at first??$$ I also found out he is a good doctor who does a lot of volunteer work for needy that can not afford to pay.
I started Blyriggers way back then and as I said, I did not understand that kendal was not going to put outrigger holders on a new 35 contender. Stupid me. I made my first set of King fish portable outriggers to fit in his king fish holders looking out the side of his T top. He wanted them for occasionally trolling for Mahi when not king mackerel fishing. No outriggers for Kendal when fishing in king tournaments. 100 pairs built and sold probably because of kendal. Thanks Kendal for educating a dumb yankee who knew nothing of the serious king mackerel fishermans needs. He is Aces in my Book. Thanks Kendal. and congratulations. I sold Blyriggers to Gem products. Kendal, PM me if you ever need anything. Jay

Thanks for the insight. Felt like I was beating my head against a wall for most of Sunday , congrats on your fish.
Did he hit pogies or ribbon fish ? Curious what the fish up there were caught on.

Fished Sunday with the pack in the morning. Finally found bait around 9 and there were still several boats looking. Ran with the pack until around 12:30 then headed south. Had one short bite all day. Great jobs by all teams and congrats to everyone.

We threw everything at em Saturday with no luck. Spent the first half of the day offshore marking tons of bait but no king strikes. Fished the beach with everyone else the last half of the day. Saw two kings sky but not on our baits. Good job to everyone that went out. I'll be up there this weekend for the open. Hopeing for some better luck
