Default Chocolate Lab needs a Home

I came home from work on Monday and the neighbor comes out and informed me my Lab "Jake" had gotten out and they put him on chain in my back yard???? Well Jake stays inside! I go out back to find this big guy with a collar with no ID, I have try ed to search high and low for the owners and unfortunately nothing.
Some may remember I lost my chocolate lab about six months ago and thanks to the advise of a few of you guys I went out and bought "Jake"who is now 5 months old and unfortunately I cant keep another dog, we have 3 dogs and a parrot and just no room for another. If I didn't have Jake, I wouldn't think twice. This guy has been in a crate this week and is obviously crate trained and looks to have been taken care of, his nails were trimmed and I'm guessing he's between 1-2 years old and good on a leash approximately 90-100 lbs... will make a good dog for someone but I just cant keep him I would like to find him a home, or even better his owners, I would deliver him/ meet someone ....I live in about 10 miles east of Charlotte

He is beautiful and looks very stout and healthy. You wont have any problems finding him a home.

He's one of the nicest looking labs I've seen he'll make some family proud! He has one of the biggest heads I've ever seen.
I just couldn't shove him away to get hit by a car ect.... I don't want to get attached to him..

I'd expect his owner to be frantic about finding a good dog like that. Good luck locating them!

Did you take him to your Vet. I know it's a long shot, but sometimes instead of wearing a color an owner can have a chip implanted under the dogs skin that a vet can scan for (like a name tag that can never be lost). I know that there is not way for you to feel for the chip yourself, but it may be worth a shot to have your vet scan for it.

I have 2 yellow labs, I know if I lost would I would be a basketcase, let along my wife.

Keep us Posted...

EC yep I know what you're talking about, my Jake is chipped. from my understanding there are two major chip Co's and my Vet is capable of scanning for only one type chip used.
Sat. I'm taking him over for a scan. My wife and I have driven around all the subdivisions and no signs up, so we put up a few of our own.. I would love to find the owners but I'm afraid he could have been dropped off.

Weekend-Hooker
I may be interested in giving him a home. My 19yr old son is an avid hunter and has been looking for a dog to train. I definately have to check w/ The Admiral on this one. Also would like to have a boat dog as our female Newfy is getting up in age.
Would also want to be sure he is not chipped and owner can't be found. I would think from your description of him he was not dropped off. I'm sure someone is heartbroken.
Give me a shout. (704) 873-2244 (Statesville) Ask for Bob

Just an Update :MAXIMUM B and I have been in contact with each other and, I'm going to have the dog scanned Sat. and also gives the owner another few days to contact me, but MAXIMUM has to check with the family and were gonna go from there based on the scan and what Bobs family decides, if it doesn't work I'll contact the next guy down the line...
I think this guy's gonna have a permeate home soon.

If Jake got out what would you hope/expect someone to do so that you got Jake back home? I would at least call every vet and grooming shopwithin 10 miles or so and give them a description. From the dog's condition he was obviously well care for by someone.

UPDATE!!!
tarnald: did exactly what you recommended on Tuesday, and it payed off. A friend of my wife's works at the animal shelter and they were also looking out for us and fortunately the owner called this afternoon looking and the shelter notified us and " J-J" will be reunited with his family tonight when I get home.

Thanks Bob.

About a week ago a co-worker of mine was driving to work and there was a black lab running south on Highway 12 (for those of you that know the Duck area you know this time of the year it is anything but a highway). She was worried it was going to be hit, so she picked it up and brought it to the office. We called the local SPCA, and Animal Shelter and within 4 hours the dog's owner had located her.

Weekend, not to insult you because it seems that you have done everything so far, but have you called your SPCA, and or Animal Shelters. I know if mine got out other then driving around town like and idiot that's where I would call.

My other question was, I know that when I take my dogs collars off you can see that they had been wearing a collar, does it look like your boy had one that he pulled out of? Just wondering.

Like OneSource said, I'm sure I can find him a home here on the OBX if need be..

Keep us posted!!!!

I had to go back and read my own post: The dog had a collar when he was left at my house by my neighbor who found him, however no identification what so ever, I hate it sounded like I was ready to pan off this guy quickly, I had contacted the animal shelter right away and looked for LOST DOG signs and actually put up a few FOUND DOG signs but my situation is I travel for a living and my wife and daughter are not in the position to handle another big dog at home and I wanted to resolve this before I go out of town again, just wanted the guy to have a good home in the event I couldn't locate its owners soon.
Thank you guys who offered to accept his acquaintance. Its good to know there's good people out there.
Just glad he's going home safe!

Great news! I was kinda getting worried because they only let MAXIMUM B out to go to work during the day and I was wondering who would care for the dog.
