Default Johnson 225 4 stroke issues Help!

Last year about May first input my boat in the water to get it ready for MAD. Had an issue in the turning basin and had to be towed to the ramp. On a recommendation from a friend I took it to a shop in Harkers Island. Two days before MAD they called and said the problem was a sensor and I paid to have the part rush order flown in so I could have the boat. Put the boat in the water on that Friday and as I exited the no wake zone the engine woudl cut out as it approached 3000 rpm. I put it back on the trailer and dropped it back off at the shop after hours. I didnt get to fish MAD for the first time ever. They called me a week later and said they put it in the water and it ran fine. The engine ran fine all summer long. I put the boat in the water yesterday and it did the same thing. When it got to about 2800 rpm it started cutting out. I am hesitant to take it back to that shop because I really want to fish MAD and I'm not sure they can get to it. The boat is in Beaufort. Anybody got any ideas what it might be or a good mechanic that might be able to get to it ASAP.

Not sure about a 4 stroke, but Clarks Marine over at AB is really good with 2 strokes OMC. He only works on Evinrude/Johnson

Not sure but give Chris Davies a call at Boats Inc in MHC. That family can quote OMC part numbers from memory.

Good Luck!

I have the mechanic at the Boathouse in Beaufort taking a look at it. Hopefully I'll have her back this year before MAD.

I have Johnson 200 4-stroke. Of course, it is a Suzuki everywhere but the paint and logo. I took mine to Radio Island Marina with an issue. One of their guys is an experienced Suzuki tech. I was pleased with the troubleshooting, repair and service attitude.

I have a 2004 Johnson 225 Four stroke that is doing the same thing, I think, but it happens between 3200 and 4200 rpm. It runs great below and above that range. It has 3 pretty good mechanics stumped. The frustrating part is that it doesn't do it all the time, some days not at all and then others it will hardly run in that range. It feels like someone is pressing the kill switch and releasing it really fast or the rev limiter is activating.

Does this sound like what's going on for you?

Not sure it is the same thing. Mine runs great up to 2800 then when you increase the throttle it starts cutting out and missing. Engine never gets over 2800-3000. It had never done it before last spring. When I took it back to the shop they said it ran fine. I thought they had it in test mode and they didn't water test it the first time but who knows. It is very frustrating.

I have a mechanic meeting me on the water next week with a Suzuki programmer. Hopefully he can figure it out.
