Nice third place snag but 1 more meal and that sucker would have been a real nice payday.

Someone mentioned this fish was probably over 500 when it was first boated. I know they lose some weight on the way in…..I wonder how much.

2% is 9.83lbs which would bring the fish to 501.23

Lots of variables such as gaff shot(s), how well she was kept wet, iced, covered and temp/sun.

What are the rules on keeping wet, covered, iced, etc. All the fish I've seen come in are exposed - of course, they may have been covered for 99% of the trip…...

There are no rules.

Personally I'd have that thing wrapped in an insulated blanket full of ice.

Remember Ice causes fish to shrink and lose weight. Best thing to do is stop any loss of fluid as best as possible and keep it out of extremes (sun, hot or cold).

17. WEIGHT ALTERATION - Attempted weight alteration of any blue marlin or gamefish will be subject to disqualification and automatically disqualify the boat from the tournament. IGFA rules apply regarding mutilated fish. The Rules Committee reserves the right to cut open any fish for inspection of suspected weight altering efforts such as inserted weights, ice, water, etc.

Reminds me of one of the first years they had a webcam - a boat called First Down Pirates - I think a Jarrett Bay 52 or 54 or something like that - was docket at BR Landing. Lot of ECU honies on board, and as I understand it, they did not like to be encumbered by bathing suits, let alone clothing, of any kind at times.

This is all rumor of course…..

I'll let Buck fill in the true details….my uh, cousin, was involved - off his lithium for the week….something about naked women, a small marlin, a protest, and as I heard it, that marlin ended up on top of a small toyota. My cuzz has been involved in about a thousand unreal stories…and about half of them are true.

Long story how he got the invite on the boat. Owned by a Greenville businessman, his son was the "captain" - so to speak, who was an ECU student.

I remember the small marlin...

And as an ECU grad I can appreciate the rest of the story, sounds like the boys had a good time!
