Over 300K still on the table for the first 500 pounder. Not many boats laying tomorrow with that incentive.

If it is dead at the boat, you should boat it and bring her in.
yep - few too many rules sometimes……when you have too many rules, you become a prisoner of your own rules. Here guys did the right thing and will get slammed for it.

As that great philospher Josey Wales said:
"…..buzzards gotta eat, same as the worm….."

Actually, I would think some remains would/could be returned to the environment after the research. I'm thinking, they probably are not putting every little part into a jar or under the microcsope.

chain link boated a blue but are still fishing? Guess they're not level VII or it's not 500lbs...

Maybe they are entered in other gamefish categories?

It would be interesting if they were in the fab fisherman, and another boat boated a marlin and was heading back. I wonder if they would turn and haul ass to try and beat the other boat.

I doubt they'd take the chance of being beat to the scales for $300K...

What is the rule? First to scales or First on the boat and then they weigh it later?

Hell, $300K is more than half of what they want for the boat....

I heard him say on the radio that they had the release but had to decide about whether to boat him. He probably wasn't dead just close to the minimum and they had to measure and decide if he was large enough to keep. I don't believe he was dead based on what I heard.

If radio chatter was right and I could make it out. Sounds like it came up dead.

Chainlink called in the catch but was going to take a closer look. Then they called it back in as boated. My guess is it is a second or third place contender.

They wouldn't stick around and fish if they had a money fish. Every minute that fish is in the boat it's losing weight. I would guess it died. Where they'll run in to trouble is if they hook another and it dies.

So does the 400 point penalty only affect you in the release division or would it somehow penalize you in a big fish catagory?

8. LEVEL VII $5000. The Winner of this level will be the first blue marlin reported and boated weighing 500 lbs. or more. Qualifying fish must meet all Tournament Rules. All boats participating in this level must be entered in all categories of the Tournament.
