Yeowee, that had to be a horrible fall, it's a long way down and maybe the bright side (if there could be one) is it wasn't more serious and hit her head on the way down? She must have been a trooper to suffer the ride home!

Conditions remind me of the year Dancin' Thomas won it, 35 boats in a torrential downpour, visibility so bad you couldn't see the flat lines and the worst part was we all saw a freighter drive into it as right as it hit us, I think at least 6 boats were hooked up, (including us but too small of a fish), our heads were on a swivel for sure waiting to see a lot of steel materialize out of the gloom.

I'll bet Freddie looked something like this;

(he did the time I was with him and we got tagged)

A really loud pop after the lighting struck, but no visible fires or anything. But there was a sheet of water falling from the sky, so the vis wasn't the best.

Makes me think my day wasn't so bad. They will be under tow for a good while if sea tow's guy couldn't get them up and going, even if temporary.

I have not kept up with them at all once we got back to the dock.

Great start to a bad day for sure!! We get to the fishing grounds at 8:15, along with almost everybody fishing today. At one time I counted 34 boats far and near sitting, waiting for the lines in call from headquarters.

10 minutes before the call, the super storm we have been getting nervous about arrives! It is throwing DOWN!! Winds up to 30kts estimated, rain completely side ways!!

At this point there is NO lighting, so when the call finally does come thru its go time rain and all.

3 lines out......BAM fish on (It was maybe 15minutes in?) its fight time. Well, as soon as Matt is in the chair (and mind you we cant see the baits fish or 20' behind the boat) lighting strike!! Everywhere, so bad you can see it thru the rain. Except you see (and hear) it light up the whole earth and not the actual strike.

But we have a fish burning it down, so we are on it. 5 minutes later, we have a est 90lb white released. (2 minutes earlier and we would have been first release of the day)

So we are still fishing, getting lines back out, again lighting everywhere. But at this point we can at least make out a few boats around us...........and BAM... a boat 200 yrs from us gets hit by lighting!! Later to find out it was the "magic moment".

So on we fished, in the worst conditions I have ever seen. ! hook up with a blue but he spit the hook, and 2 more what we think were whites. Man, other than the fear of getting struck, we are having a blast...freezing, but having a blast!

So the weather clears a little, at least stops raining but we could see lighting all around us. But clear enough to dry off and hang around outside the boat.

And that's when it happens......one of my friends wants to go down and put dry clothes on. As she tries for the first step down off the bridge, yes, she slips as everything including us are still soaking wet for the most part.

Needless to say a horrific accident and we are in some messy seas. So we get her wrapped up and inside the cabin. Clear the lines and head in, ambulance is waiting there at the dock to haul er off.

She is now freshly home and put back together at 6pm....for now. Goes next week for reconstruction of her ankle.

Defiantly an experience I will never forget.

Dang... Did not know that was you! Needless to say it sounds like you and Magic Moment were at the heart of the storm with too many bad things happening!

It is going to be a LONG ride in for them, but I am glad the girl is OK! I was listening to it on the radio when you were talking with the Coast Guard, and the other boat suggested to "meet" you with a DR on board. I am glad you didn't risk transferring that girl, that would of been painful!!

Did the Coast Guard pick her up, or did you make it back to port ok??

Just not letting this thread go down past 10 or so new posts... Absolutely great first two days! Three fish weighed, boat hit by lightning, broken ankle, the boat stranded was actually catching fish... ( I am praying for those that are hurt). But I think this is one one the most exciting starts in years! I had dinner with a customer tonight and they want the live broadcast on during our meeting tomorrow, just based on my descriptions of what has gone on so far! The people I left in the office were laughing at me last year... "You are the only one we know of that can LISTEN to a fishing tournanement!" Now they are listening!

Keep it up Big Rock!

slow day compared to the first two; only four hook-ups in the first hour, zero in the next 25 minutes

I was at Jarrett Bay this morning at 8am...they had just gotten in around 5 and the guy I talked to said they were done...everything was fried. Not sure how reliable his info was but they definitely aren't fishing today.

Close to lunar bite time on these hookups. Be interesting to see what tomorrow holds in the last couple of hours of fishing.
