Default Big Rock BMT 2012

With just 3 days prior to the tournament, the website is showing only 11 boats participating. Do boats participating in this event normally wait till the last minute for registration? Surely the Big Rock website is updated this close to the commencement of the tournament...

Yes, they normally wait. In fact, they don't even start taking entries until pretty late. I always wonder with a bad economy whether participation will be down - but the short answer is yes, it's always a last minute thing.

It was entertaining seeing the girl at the desk's reaction when the guy in line in front of me last year handed her $18,000 cash, had an armed guard up there with her.

Holy cow, average size is over 61 foot and smallest are a pair of 48's but both of those are custom, and there's an 80 Merritt so far. The boats get bigger and bigger.

I was monitoring ch. 72 while fishing Saturday off Topsail. Heard an update or 2, I was surprised at how long the list of catches/hookups was.

Yeah, apparently the charter fleet has been hooking up with bills for weeks. The warm winter and very warm March has the billfish in the area early. Some folks who know lots more about this than I ever will are predicting and active BR.

(Oh, and on the subject of boat count. 89 as of this morning. Will they get to the 150-160 range? We'll know in about 8 hours.)

Anybody listening to the live feed this morning know what the story is with the lady giving instructions to kids on how to sit. "Alexander lean forward a little" , " Marisa sit back" , "I'm trying to get the shadows off the bow". Why would she be talking to kids on the radio? Does she think she's on the boats PA system?

;?;?

I drove through the canal in Morehead and Beaufort this weekend.....I'm fairly certain that the REELS on most of these boats were worth more than my BOAT!!! OK, so exactly how much do some have in these vessels, and gear to make this tournament? You know...in case I win the lottery!
