Anyone gone out of daulphin island. Save a couple hours traveling to Venice and looks the an easier ride out than Venice. Looks to be about 40 miles to the lumps

I've fished out of Dauphin, pretty easy navigating out. We did great on the Red snapper. Fished 2 days. Thinking about going out to the rigs for tuna in 2021. I'd be happy to give more info. Just hit me up.

I've towed my 26' boat down there 4 times from eastern NC, ALl trips have been april-ish with hopes of timing the big winter yellowfins, we never really timed it right. If I went again it would be fall for the shrimp boat fishing. And no fog....

I am thinking of trailering down there in late April/ May. Is the fog terrible this time of year?

Should start getting better by then. I work on the river. But if the river comes up and stays up then there is plenty of cold water coming down. Makes fog more common.

Fog should not be a problem then, but a very high river at that time of year makes the river a capricious bitch. So much debris floating down. Deadheads lying just at or below the surface. It can be dangerous. I've been fishing and hunting Venice since the early '80's. From the peak river levels in late spring my river travels are limited from The Jump to Baptiste Collette and that's the extent of it. There are other routes available but usually entail longer boat runs.

Trailer your boat and hire a local Captain for a few days, till you gain local knowledge, you'll have a blast.
