Im sure a bunch of us took advantage of thanksgiving in July...we trout fished all around swansboro with little to show. I cannot seem to find a trout anymore. Fishing was slow and they quit biting

We started out trolling for wahoo but marked a ton of good bottom so thought wed give it a shot. On the second drop, I picked up a 43lb gag.

He was all the way on the bottom.

Just kidding. We were out at the Big Rock in about 200 ft. Caught on a fall flat jig (250 g, I think).

We didnt do very well at all after that, at least for fish we wanted to keep. Seemed like the kings were chewing - we caught a few and got cut off several times.

I was mad that I stayed in Raleigh with the weather so nice. Maybe still too warm? Cfarm sorry you did not have better luck. I thought trout fishing would have improved with cooler weather this past week..

Fished on Saturday afternoon; several nice Red Drum, one Flounder and Zero Trout. It took a while to find the bait and once we did there was so much they had zero interest in what we were throwing. Water was plenty stained with a lot more fresh water to flush through. Beautiful day on the water regardless.

Im going to tell myself the salinity was the problem. We found plenty of bait in various places. Cow channel looked like a mullet buffet Saturday afternoon. I saw one school of rat reds moving by and several large groups of mullet. It should be firing off on the beach reel soon

Two slinger mahi as soon as we started trolling. Two others pulled string but never got the hook. Around noon we went after triggers and got 30 in 1.5 hours between 4 of us fishing, mostly only three dropping to the bottom.
Water was too warm, 76-80 most of the time, although we did stumble into a pocket of 65* water. Very little life during trolling times.

Any advice on triggers? I keep catching bliners, but have yet to catch any nice numbers of triggers, have only caught at most 3-4 at a spot.

Yep, #2, or #3 hooks. Triggers have small mouths.

And maybe get into deeper water.

Having the same issue but man was it beautiful all weekend. I moved from New River down towards Wilmington so the clear water has me all f'd up. I just don't know how to fish it. Couldn't even find bait.
