Default Veteran's Day 2020

Good morning and Happy Veterans Day!!!

IF we had been alive in 1863… we would have been able to read a letter written from the President of the United States, then President Abraham Lincoln. We would read his words that summed up our responsibility to our many veterans:

“Honor to the Soldier, and Sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country's cause. Honor also to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field, and serves, as he best can, the same cause – honor to him, only less than to him, who braves, for the common good, the storms of heaven and the storms of battle.” The sentiment behind our 16th President’s words should continue to resonate today as we take time today and honor all of the men and women who have served in our Nation’s military.

Every day, but especially today , we need to honor more than 18 million veterans who have worn the uniform and the flag of our Nation throughout our history. These veterans have sacrificed family holidays, birthday’s, their own children being born, … and even their own lives to defend our country and our freedom. I know there are a lot of who have returned home, that still carry with them daily, the physical and mental scars of war.

This Veterans Day, it is important that all of us to recognize everyone who has worn the uniform. We need to honor their commitment to our Nation with our heartfelt gratitude.

As written by Father Dennis Edwards O’Brian, USMC… I will share with you a Marine’s Veterans Day Poem:

It is the soldier, not the reporter,

Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet,

Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,

Who has given us freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier, who salutes the flag,

Who serves beneath the flag, and

Whose coffin is draped by the flag,

Who allows the protester to even burn that flag.

As always, if you see the ones who have served, proudly wearing a hat showing what branch of service they in which they served, and that tell all the sacrifice he or she has made... please take a minute to say thank you. Unless you have been in their shoes, you have no idea how thankful they will be to hear those words.

Have a great Veterans Day! I pray God will bless you, your family, and our veterans.

Now fly your flags, go cook a hotdog or hamburger and celebrate with me! God Bless America!

Semper Fi,

Capt Jim
Honorably discharged SSGT USMC
