Default Another snake thread.

My neighbor called and said that my dog was going nuts and he noticed a snake in my driveway.
Looks like he just ate something, anyway living in Eastern Nc my entire life I've never seen a snake like this one.
Non-poisonous obviously, I'd just like to know what it is.

Hognose snake pretty cool snake actually. He will blow his head out and play dead. They will also make a hissing sound. I've seen several and no two have been alike they can have many different color phases. They are actually mildly poisonous but their fangs are so far back in the mouth they are no threat. He is a lover of frogs for dinner.

Common Northern Watersnake. Non venomous but still a nasty, bloody bite.

Wish i was home to see it myself. It does look like he is blown up. I thought he had just eat a rat or something.
We have tons of frogs in are yard so you may be on to something. There is a retention pond behind my house.

Yea you can tell in the pic he has blown up. Good snake to have a round, if you see him again poke him a little he will blow up, then he’ll curl up rollover and play dead. He is the possum of the snake world.

Yeah my neighbor picked him up with a rake and put him back in the bushes behind the house. Said when he did that the snake never even moved.

Hognose

It will puff up like a cobra and hiss until you bop it on the head with a broom.
Then it flips over and plays dead.

Amazing how the traits and behaviors continue through time...

Yep hognose. Cool and good snake. Non venomous despite its bluff. Don’t kill em.
