Went out on Wednesday and had a blast! We landed 10 fish and our sister boat landed 17....so much fun!

Nice catch. Where and what were you using? Will be in Hatteras next week and looking to find some.

We were in the Pamlico sound. Exactly where I couldn't say. We were bait fishing with I think you call it "Shad" and some blue's that we caught....this one is 49 inches long - we had two over 50....pretty fun for a newbie!

My wife named my first Red, “the $10,000 fish.”
6 weeks later I had a boat and I’ve never looked back.

Pretty work. We're headed out to Cedar Island this weekend for some old drum fishing.

Who were you fishing with? I go up there every year. Caught 40 big’uns last week in the hurricane!

One of eleven caught, and released, in Sep 2005, fishing with Capt. Brian Harrington. This one was in the Neuse River, just up from Oriental.

Default Red drum

Congratulations! It’s addictive for sure. I have a question. I usually fish with cut mullet or finger mullet but came across a ton of pogies on Sunday but passed them up. Would these work well for bull reds?

I’ve only fished for them in the surf. What kind of tackle are we talking about for inshore?

Big bull reds, you need/want heavier tackle to shorten the fight. Near shore where some of these are, heavy tackle - 40-50# braid, 5000 or maybe 6500 size reels, Owen Lupton type rig and circle hooks.

Inshore, I catch upper slot and up to 30" reds on a 3000 size reel, 8-17# rod, and 20# braid with 25# flouro leader. Caught two 22" reds today inshore. What a blast.

Pogies catch reds just fine. Crabs also work. I find you get less undesired species using crab. Sharks and cats love cut bait.

Yes pogies are great drum bait! They can either be fished live or dead with the tail cut off.
