Heading to Asheville this weekend, Anything I must do?
Just like the title says.

I would appreciate any suggestions on things to do. We are there for three nights and looking to enjoy the mountain scenery. I am thinking about taking a drive up into the Highlands for a day.

Bring warm cloths. Lows in the lower 40's this weekend.

My wife and I always stop in at Siera Nevada for dinner and a few beers.

We stay just outside Asheville when we’re not at the beach. Do you like beer? Do you like cider? Downtown Asheville has plenty of amazing restaurants. Yelp them and decide. Activities are wide. Rafting, beer tasting, cider in mills river, trout fishing, driving the parkway, etc. The weekend weather looks fine. Sierra Nevada maybe open but I’m not sure. New Belgium was reservation only last we checked. Mills river has a cool small cider place called “bold rock”. The parkway loop from Cherokee through to maggie valley is pretty. Elk should be at the visitor center outside Cherokee on the line where the parkway is. Forest service visitor center. Evening time. Hike all over. Brevard has awesome trails, East and west fork of the pigeon river has amazing trails and epic clear water. It all depends on what you want to do. This time of the year is my favorite up that way

Chimney Rock and Sliding Rock state parks and Biltmore if you haven't been there yet.

The Asheville area is one of my favorite areas to visit. Good recommendations above. For outdoor stuff, I always take the ride up to Craggy Gardens, and usually continue on to Mt. Mitchell. That is my go North day. South we usually hit Dupont State Forest, Moores Cove Falls, Sliding Rock and others in Pisgah. Stop at Sierra Nevada going one way and take the BRP back. The fish hatchery in Pisgah is cool too. Tons of good restaurants and breweries in and around Asheville. In addition to Sierra Nevada, we hit Green Man, Turning Leaf, New Belgium and others. If you go to Dupont, be sure to stop into Oskar Blues in Brevard.

Riverside Rhapsody. Lots of got beer drinking places. I just happen to be wearing their shirt right now. Oh, and Uber everywhere.

HeadHunt 09-14-2020 03:01 PM

Do your research... A lot of restaurants and bars are closed for dine in.

The Biltmore House Estate it if fantastic.

autobaun70 09-14-2020 03:21 PM

If you aren’t that far away, and go to biltmore do the annual pass. Lots more to the estate than the house. Annual pass is basically double daily admission. If you are close enough to go back visit during several seasons.

Keep driving past it and get into the mountains.

But of course, also a million great breweries/eateries.

100% my opinion, Curate is the best dinner there. (Spanish Tapas)
and though it's expanding, I still enjoy Biscuithead for breakfast.
Casual lunch: Taco Temple
It'll be an expensive drink, but overlooking the hills from the deck at the Omni Grove Park is worth the $18 Bourbon. The wife loves it.

Ben's Tuneup for sake and dumplings

What about fishing? Do you happen to like to fish? The trout fishing should be good with the front.

if you like beer -- Highland Brewery. My son went last week, there were long waits outside breweries and restaurants due to limited seating with COVID. He did best when he got there 30 min before opening. For the New Belgium Brewery you had to actually schedule a visit time to get in.

DrDanH 09-15-2020 08:37 AM

Due to COVID, verify things are open.

I second the recommendation for seeing Sliding Rock State Park- bring a swimsuit! Largest natural waterslide in the US

Drive the "Tail of the Dragon"- fun to drive if you're not in a minivan, a truck, or towing something. Lunch at Fontana Village.
