Franklin, NC is a scenic mountain drive just about an hour and a half to your SW from Asheville. It is home to Mason's Mine. We went there once and I found a saphire that yeilded 2 roughly 3/4 carat each earrings for my wife. Great find. Home

They also have a great music venue there at Smokey Mountain Center for the Performing Arts. Not sure how badly COVID has messed their calendar up, but you might catch a good show in town.

About an Hour due west is Bryson City. You might like to take a ride on the Smokey Mountain Railroad in Bryson City, visit Casinos in Cherokee or go to Fontana Lake.

Lake Lure and Chimney Rock are a nice day destination for a hike and a sunset cruise. There is also some trout fishing to be had in the mountains.

If you need a place to stay, there is a great b&b 30 minutes outside Asheville. Fireplaces and balconies in most rooms.

Fontana Lake is nice but a bit of a drive from Asheville proper. Also take some duckies and do the white water [well sort of white water] at Natahala.

Grove Park Inn for the Sunday brunch. Expensive but a lot of food and great view. (If Omni hasn't fugged them up yet). Also consider heading up to Weaverville for dinner. There are several good restaurants including the Glass Onion.

There were people literally lined up to go into the original one in Valle Crucis a couple weeks ago when I was up there and I really did not understand why.

Wicked Weed brews up there. They have an IPA named Pernicious and also an excellent Pilsner.
Cheers🍻
