Default Expect one of the most active hurricane seasons in 20+ years, NOAA says

Joy, here is an excerpt.

In May, NOAA called for an "above normal" hurricane season, including 13-19 named storms, 6-10 hurricanes, 3-6 major hurricanes. In the group's latest update, the forecast has increased to "extremely active," and is now calling for 19-25 names storms, 7-11 hurricanes, and 3-6 major hurricanes. A major hurricane is a category 3 or higher.

Sounds identical to every year the past few years. Sensationalism has made it's way to forecasting the weather!

Agreed, it seems like every year they say that. What's more they try to fluff up every named storm into a Katrina...I couldn't believe how much hype Isias got, they were giving him CPR for days...and while I'm ranting...who gave that storm the dumb name?!?

Disclaimer: I prep diligently for every named storm that My Beaufort home might be impacted by...frankly the posts on THT are about as accurate a predictor as anything.

We know it's going active, we've already had 9 named storms. When you've passed the letter I by the fist of August I could predict a active season, get it right and I know nothing about predicting the weather.

This season will be an active one but the thing that is most notable about it is how few of the storms that have formed actually made it to hurricane strength. We've made it to the letter I and only two broke hurricane strength albeit barely. Now thats something we actually havent seen before. I remember growing up where we saw a season that went into the greek alphabet. If this one does it as well that'll make it the second season to do so.

Could not be more true. I heard a few weeks back a forecaster talking about a front that may produce thunderstorms and called it "The worst front in years". It is bleeding into many parts of our daily life (News, weather, politics, ect.). There are no repercussions for making any kind of false claims or stretching the truth one bit with ALL news and other media sources these days.

P.S. The "Front" broke apart before getting to NC.

It's ridiculous - and they've now moved on to just making up "facts" to prove their prognostications. I live in Mount Pleasant and was at home for that entire "hurricane". For hours they were telling us to stay home, off the roads - hunker down and prepare for the worst. And then nothing happened - we've had several thunderstorms this year that have outpowered what we saw from that storm. But instead of saying, "sorry guys, we were wrong (again)", they doubled down - more breaking news about how bad it was, power outages, etc.. At one point, they came on and said "a wind gust of 72 mph was just reported in the Charleston Harbor". I live on a creek just off the harbor - I can see the harbor from my living room. In no point of that storm did we have winds over 25mph. We didn't even have any small limbs drop. By 7:45 pm, I said screw it and jumped on the boat. Complete joke of a storm.

Yet in Jim Cantori's live remote the night in made landfall in NC, it looked like he was going to get blown away.

Actually in the last 10 years and even before that, they have overestimated in their forecasted range once. Mostly underestimated or actual was right at the top of their range.

you mean like this guy?

Its getting ridiculous seeing these storm chasers come to town for every whale fart of a storm. Yes, Isiais caused a ton of damage down in Brunswick county, but did the weather channel really need to send a reporter to do a live broadcast in Philly the next day?
