Default Memorial Day Crazy on the Water?

Here in the Ocean Isle Beach area, I always get a chuckle every holiday weekend of vacationers doing crazy or senseless things on the water. What is the best thing you’ve seen go down this weekend?

For us, we docked the boat at a restaurant for lunch and watched a man and his wife try to jam a rental jet ski into a narrow place on the dock in front of us. After getting the jet ski in place, the man changed his mind, gave it too much throttle leaving the dock, and soaked the entire bow and crew in my boat with the tail spray.

Sorry but that’s funny. Not for your crew of course. I simply won’t go out on the boat this weekend.

Yeah, we live on the ICW. Stupidity reigns.

Yesterday was insane. Boats about 100’ apart, jet skies weaving around, idiots towing kids on floats, and some bozo with a quad CC flying a Trump flag decides to max the throttle to get through them. His wake tossed a “toon” completely out of the water, and it buried its bow when landing.

My boat stays on the lift until the weekenders leave.

So far it's been pretty tame. We were out yesterday with a small group rafted up. Had a hard time finding a spot that had a breeze & wasn't a wash tub. We were there for a few hours, and there were several other groups in the same large cove. A bit before we left a ragged out old pontoon with an F115 on it drifted our way. Asked if we had any jumper cables. All the while the stereo was blasting and 12V blender churning out drinks. Idiots seemed confused when we suggested turning all that crap off and seeing if it would start. Sure enough, it did. Recommended to them they let it catch up a bit before cranking back up the tunes & blender. Of course they didn't...stereo immediately went to full blast and daiquiri production resumed. Thankfully they also took off down the lake and took all that noise with them.

Coming through the ICW yesterday in back of oak island we were 3 wide heading towards Holden, few jet skis close to another boat, were respecting each other and trying to pass each other when a sea hunt with a single dude comes out of one of the marinas at idle speed all the way across the channel and forces all of us from 30mph to idle. Didn’t have a clue if anyone was around, just put put put. We all passed and he still had no clue. It could have ended real bad

Rode by the boat ramp today at Jordan lake and seen a truck down there floating in the water with a crowd of people around it. All you can do is shake your head

Sure I did what? See that? Absolutely.

Leave my boat on the lift? Yes, to that, too.

Definitely tons of boats on the water but ramp traffic was less yesterday than last weekend.

We did almost get hit yesterday though....

We were going through a narrow channel between two sandbars with boats rafted up on both sides when about 6 jackasses decided to roll through at almost full speed. The channel is barely big enough for two boats to pass at idle speed... I could have easily reached out and slapped each captain.

Did anyone see the boat grounded just off the ICW at the entry to Bogue Inlet on Sunday at about 3:30 PM? They were pretty stuck, hope they got off

Which one?? It was a nonstop show of boats grounding at that spot Saturday and Sunday at low tide. Sometimes there would be 2-3 stuck at one time.

No but I did see the 3 contenders pretty high on the inside of carrot island. Anybody knows those guys, or if they got off ok?

i am surprised the ones tubing between the sandbar and bird shoal didn’t get run over.

My boat didn't leave the dock all weekend. Was on the back side of NRI in the ICW late Sunday and it was Googanville. Idiots don't know or understand the rules of the road, rules of navigation, COMMON SENSE, or the Law of GROSS TONNAGE.

Was at Wade shores got there super early to avoid the crazies on the way, but it was insane all day which wasn’t surprising. While on anchor we were nearly hit 3 times because of people who couldn’t anchor in current and wind... all 3 times our crowd had to run out and hold the other boats off our boat and 1 of the three times the guy meant to reverse away from us but panicked and accidentally gunned it in forwards and nearly rammed our boat. Luckily he got control of his nerves and went full reverse just barely in the nick of time, then he caught our anchor rope while passing just off our bow trying to move on down the beach.... full on s**t show

I'll say it was as bad as last year around the CB area. The only problem for me was there were several people that were obviously new boaters. They were "cruising" with the trim up and the stern squatting so low that their wake was above their outboards. Saw several boats take water over the bow from idiots that don't know how to control their wake. Was monitoring channel 16 (as you should) and a lot of the chatter was marinas and other boats calling out people for not controlling their wake. The "Liberty" absolutely swamped Joyner marina on Saturday (I think it Saturday, might have been Sunday) even after being yelled at on the radio.
