I fished Wednesday and Thursday. We had a shot at one Wednesday in around 160 feet up north of BR. He chased the teaser to the boat three times before we got him switched off to a ballyhoo, but just couldn’t get tight on him.

Thursday I heard on the radio that a boat had three different sails in their spread and landed one.

also heard on the radio that a boat in 25 fathoms had a blue one wreck their spread without coming tight.

the bill fish are around it seems!

congrats.

Congratulations! It's an incredible feeling catching your first sail! One of God's most beautiful creations IMO. Thanks for sharing.

Ken, that one wasn't me. I sure wanted to go there but the water conditions slowed me down to about 15 mph. So we started at NW places and trolled towards 14.

Congrats! I have never caught one. Question, were you targeting them or where you trolling for dolphin and just happened to catch it? That's a pretty animal right there . Would love to catch one someday, but I don't target them and I fish mainly for dolphin when I go fishing.

We were just trolling for dolphin. Hit on the WWB rod. She sure put on a show for us. Kept tail walking.

Thought it looked like one, I've never used one but hear they're good. You run without any bait right?

Purdy work! You now are going to spend a fortune going after the next one! Don't worry, we've all been there and are glad we were!

It's so good to see Monk's lures living on. Those of us who knew Danny (yes he had a first name!) and survived the parties at his and Curly's house on the beach celebrate his memory. A gentleman always, just a little "teched" in the head and one of the best guys you'd want in the pit, ever! Nothing would phase him, a small Spanish or a seriously big blue one, you always got the dry humor and knew he was going to stick him where it counts.

I had the honor to hire him way back when for winter work, he was always mixing too big batches of epoxy and using the leftovers to try and pour molds. This one is about 20 years old and yes, it caught fish! Might save it!

I'm afraid it's already started. I talked to a friend of mine who marlin fishes and told him I want to learn how.
Thank you for the story you shared. I love learning the back end of the who, what, where and why. That lure you you have is history itself. Thank you again for sharing.
